I need some advice please.

We have our 3 year old (4 in November) granddaughter coming to live with us shortly.

Her mother has decided she wants a life of her own (she is not our daughter) Daisy is her 3rd child. Her first live with her Grandmother the 2nd live with his father and Daisy will live with her father and us.

I need to know about playschools and school. If there is anyone out there who knows about this subject I would like to hear from them.

Daisy at present is in Spain her father is taking her back to England and then on to NZ.

Our son name is not on his daughter’s birth certificate not because he did not want it but because daisy’s mother wanted to claim benefits.

I know this is a lot to ask but I know this is not uncommon in this day and age.

It is 10 years since my last child left school.

I would be please to hear from anyone who knows about this subject please.

Daisy should be eligable to start Kindergarten. I would therefore suggest you contact your local kinergarten association who will help and advise of enrolments and current waiting lists etc. Although you may find a 6 week stand down time from first registering, she is at an age they should accept her almost immediately.

As for schools, best to go by recomendation, so may be worth talking to everyone you know for as much help as poss in your area. Try www.tki.org.nz for general info on schools, follow the school tab at the top to find schools local to you and their contact details. It also gives you their decile rating.

Hope this helps a little.

Hi Susan,

I have no idea I’m afraid.

Just thought I’d say that it sounds as though you’re looking for advice on what’s changed about looking after children in the last 10 years (schools and so on).

I spotted your post and just thought that if you re-posted it in the lounge you may get more advice.
There does seem to be quite a few mum’s that use the forum, I’m sure that if they spotted your post they would give you lots of advice.

Best wishes, and good luck with the little one Bob :)
