PARENTS SPONSORSHIP & MEDICAL WAIVERS

My husband and I have been sponsored by my daughter( Family Sponsorship) to live in NZ. While waiting for the 3 year qualification period to end, 2.5 years ago I received cancer treatment. I have been given the all clear by the surgeon and oncologist in writing.. My husband is the principal applicant, who has glaucoma which is treated at present with drops. His eye sight is still OK
We are otherwise perfectly healthy over 50's and work full time. Has anyone received a medical waiver. My 2 children who live in NZ are also my only family, my husband has brothers and sisters in his home country. The documents have been submitted. My nerves are playing havoc, we were dreaming of living close to our children, and grandchild.
Friends have said that you need to wait 5 years and others say that NZ will never accept us as we will drain all their medical resourses. If you have had any expereince would be interested to hear it.

I really dont have anthing to offer by the way of help - but would like to send hugs and best wishes -that must have been so hard for you.
I sincerely hope that NZ doesnt quibble over an all clear cancer survivor! That might dent my opinion of the place somewhat.
I truly hope this works out for you.

LIkewise, I have no usefull information for you but am sending you my heart felt good wishes and a hope for a speedy and positive answer to your dreams for joining your family.
Please keep us up to date with how you get on. We have just submitted our ITA and would like to sponser my parents over after the 3yrs so they can join their grandchildren. My mother had breast cancer and now has been clear a number of yrs but she also has angina (sp) and we question about having a medical waver for her. My parents would have enough capital to get private health cover if that is what's required in order to convince NZ that they would not be a drain on their health service but I don't know if that will make any difference. I would be most intersted to keep up to date with your progress.
Here's keeping everything crossed for you and sending out those possitive vibes.

I suggest you go to one of the expo's.
the NZIS there hold regular sessions which are very good.
At the one we went to the guy said that one family wanted to take their mother who had ill health, after consideration they decided that NZ benefitted far more from the husbands job experience than loosing the whole family becasue of the M-i-Laws ill health.
So they don't look at each case black and white they look at them individually so don't write yourself off so early.
Good luck and keep smiling positive things happen to positive people.

Hi,
Update. All the PR documents and medicals have been sent to London. The Immigration Lawyer checked my medicals with the physicans they deal with in Auckland. My daugter said they did not seem overly concerned, as long as we did not have TB or Aids, or needed immediate hospital care. I did back up my application with test results and letters from specialist surgeons and oncologists. I am not sure what happens in London, who checks the medicals. I am living in hope...lol

Hi Guys,
Our PR documents are being checked by NZIS, I discovered this when R1200 was deducted from my bank account. I have hired an immigration attorney to help us along the way with PR. My big question, if we are not successful in obtaining NZ PR do I get a refund from NZIS London. :roll

Lel,
I hope this all goes through Ok for you! Ill be crossing fingers and toes!
And while there are no refunds - for some Visas and in some circumstances - you can appeal a negative decision. This may be no help to you whatsoever - from experience it can be as arbitary as whether the applicant actually lives in NZ at the time or not - but if the worst happens - it may be worth looking at. My only experience with it is for LTBV , not for sponsorship so it ay nat be relevant.
Hugs

Hi,
Received a letter from London NZIS saying our appliction for a residence visa has been accepted for considertion under the family-parent category.
Not sure of the next step, probably checking all the medical documents we sent, hoping all goes well. We just made it before the new medicals came into effect, with the help of a NZ Immigration Lawyer. The time frame is 4 months to hear about approval in principal

The only way to guarantee success, is to give yourself enough opportunities to win :raebanana !

:uhoh I received a letter from NZIS London to say they are giving me 42 days to give more evidence and proof from my oncologist that I will not be a health risk and drain on the NZ health system. I have a new letter from the oncologist to say that my long term prognosis is good, which she said 6 months ago when we lodged. NZIS ideally would like a cancer survivor to be 5 years clear, and I am only entering the 4th year.
I know of people that have just reached 5 years to find that the cancer has returned, and others have lived to a ripe old age, no 2 people are the same.
I hope to be the latter. My Immigration Lawyer is asking for a waiver, I am not holding my breath, but would love to join my children my only family.
