I will probably be flying to NZ sometime in November and plan to check out the Nelson area as a suitable area for our family to settle, we saw the area 11 years ago and looking of the Interweb things have certainly been progressing since then.

I will be coming over initially on my own to sus a decent short term rental and possible intermediate schools for my daughter and I'm on the lookout for a contact or two, either moving to the area or a local who may be able to point us in the right direction with schools, areas to live, where to get things etc. My wife and daughter will be travelling via HK and Philippines and will join me before XMAS (and I'm under orders to get it all done by then!) our stuff should hopefully arrive soon after.

I have one or two 'dangling strings' in regard to job contacts in the area, which I am sure I can firm up once I am there in person (forever the optimist!)

Also if you know anyone in the area who may be of help, please let us know.

Good luck in the move, Blenheim's a lovely place from what I remember and not too far from Nelson (well as the crow flies anyway!) I'm sure you'll both seriously love it. Get in touch once your geographically clued up a bit more :nice1

As an update for anyone else that knows me, all my flights are all booked now and I arrive in Auckland on the 1st Decmber and fly straight to Nelson the same day. (I'll never want to see an airplane again!)

Good news is I managed to get a 2 month rental sorted out in the centre of Nelson:D, house sitting a doggie and moggie

..bad news is I will have to start some serious job huntin' once the jet lags over :uhoh

Also Helen and Alex will be UK bound for a while at least until the house sells/rents, not having them there at XMAS is going to be the hardest bit of the move (unless Helen runs off with the milkman while I'm over there :laugh )

Errr guess thats about it for now!

Hi Boz,

Not long now till your big adventure begins! Good one for finding a rental for a couple of months. This will give you some time to look around the city & suburbs and decide on where you'd like to settle. My parents live on Richmond Avenue (walking distance to the city centre). My Hubby Andy will be in Nelson with them 4 - 7 Nov so unfortunately you're going to miss eachother. Maybe Anita can share their experiences with you. Best of luck and keep us posted.
