Hi Folks

I am about to submit my HND to the NZQA for full assessment, and I have a question...

If I am just sending my HND (which has already been pre-assessed) do I need to send details of prior work experience too?

This sounds a bit over the top since I am only using it to give me the standard 50 points.

Thanks folks

Tony

Hi Tony,

My experience with NZQA (or whatever they like to tell you they are called now!) wasn't great, but we got there in the end - which was 4 months after submitting my docs and that was only after some prodding (or should I say interfering) by me.

I would advise sending as much info as possible, to stop them from adding more links in the chain. It seems that they only have 2 speeds - excruciatingly slow and dead stop! My 'case officer' assured me that he had sent a request to my examining body (which is a professional chartered body that even has an NZ affiliate) but after 3 months I don't think he had. He told me that they send a request when they first deal with your application, they then wait a month, they then send another request and then wait 3 months! AT this point I contacted my organisation and asked if they had had any NZ requests and they said they don't get that many from the world over and they turn them around in a week - so I reckon he either didn't send anything or sent it to the wrong place.

Anyway, I emailed him the name of the lady I had been speaking to and then he got all huffy and told me that if I kept interfering it might jeopodise the process - hah! after 3 months I thought what have I got to lose, you haven't done anything so far. Back to the matter in hand - the nice lady at my end told me that she had then received a communication from this guy (how strange I hear you cry) and that hopefully I should hear soon. Well 3 or 4 weeks later I finally got my full assessment. Luckily it was one level higher than my pre-lim and 2 higher than our NZIS case officer said I needed.

But it was still a stressful experience.

Not sure if this helps you, but others might find it useful, when I wrote/telephoned my old employers for a reference letter for the NZIS application, I asked each of them to send 3 original copies if they didn't mind - this meant I had spare for this and any prospective employer - just in case the docs got lost in the post!

Sorry this answer to your question has been so long-winded, but I hope it will make your expectations of the NZQA service more realistic. I have read of some people on this forum who have had much worse experiences of NZQA than I have. :o

Good luck.

Hi, Helen sent all her qualifications to NZQA and we tracked them on the internet through fedex so we know exactly when they got there and who signed for them. That was august 29th. since then we have received no confirmation of them getting there or anything.
Last night helen phoned and spoke to a woman who confirmed that they had arrived and gave her process number and the name of the person dealing with her case, unfortunately couldn't get hold of her last night but we will try again tonight.
If i were you, i'd phone, it puts your mind at rest.
P+H.

Hi, I have just sent off my forms to NZQA by airsure, couldnt afford courier!
did you receive anything to say they had received it?
I put in references of each job I have had, plus a letter from the bursar at the school where I did my workexperience while studying and a CV.
do you think that will be enough? All that for 5 points! and all my Certificates and stuff (I scanned each one though for proof!)
