Hi everyone, what are peoples experiences with police checks! it says they can take up to 40 working days!! is this true? or are they generally quicker?
its the only thing i'm waiting for so i can despatch my ITA, wish i'd sent it off sooner.
Mind you NZQA are dragging there feet so my OH can't submit hers yet anyway, still frustrating though.

We got ours this morning through the post, and we applied for them on the 16th August.
I was speaking to a couple of policemen on Saturday and they said that generally they will take 40 days as they usually do them at the last possiblt moment - I guess we got lucky as it was only 20 days.
And it's 40 days, not 40 working days.

Ours took about 3 weeks.

Our's via Sussex to the Met Police took 5 weeks for Gary's and 7+ weeks for mine. Sussex Police phoned me to say that I had sent them to the wrong force, the lady in the Data Bureau had never heard of our village.:no Not much hope in an emergency then.
I phoned to query where mine was ( both sent together) and I received it in 3 days then.

Here in South Wales everyone is a law abiding, respectable pillar of society and, to be honest, police checks are the only thing on a police constable's job description.
Obviously ;)

I thought the only thing on your rozzers job description was speed checks.
Promise not to laugh if I tell you something............ ok then,
A couple of months ago, Gary ( of welsh birthright and all that taffy :p ) asked me what a chav was ???
Three days later when I had stopped laughing, I found a newspaper article in the DM that described it, hmmmmmmmmmm very well and with bonus pictures too. :clap
He is well travelled, well educated and sometimes completely out of touch.:roll But good for a laugh though.

D:laugh:laugh Just to nip in the bud any disgruntled replies from those in the South East, the "Irons" in my name refers to West Ham United FC in East London, where I was brought up.

I thought the Welsh police were too busy manning the speed traps to bother with things like record checks CI.
Cant say I have come accross the "irons" bit in relation to West Ham. Only ever known them as the hammers.
Having 2 Welsh born (Bridgend) stepsons, I wouldnt dream of making any dodgy comments. The only Irons I ever heard of in connection with the east end is in that lovely old bit of cockney slang "iron hoof".
Flak jacket is now on.

At matches, there's more likely to be a chorus of "Come on You Irons" than "Come on you Hammers", although most opposition fans refer to "Hammers" and don't pick up on the "Irons" bit.
The irony of the cockney slang thing obviously isn't lost on us though. Many a discussion has been had with fellow fans enquiring whether there is a degree of embarrassment when a group of blokes get together and sing "We are the Irons" at away grounds up and down the land.
Come on you ironies :D
Apologies Paul and Helen for veering wildly off-topic :exit
