Hi All,
I went to New Zealand house on the 30th August as i had been reliably informed that i could get a work visa on the day, i went with my husband and we were informed that my application as the main applicant with a job was fine but we needed to fill in my husbands application and send in a photocopy of a utility bill. My husband filled in the form and we sent utility bill and applications passports etc off in the post the following day. Today i have had my application returned mine said i had not provided evidence of work experience even though i am registered to work as a nurse in UK and NZ.Also need references from employers, or previous employers. My Husband has been asked for further evidence we are in a relationship birth certificates of children we were only applying for ourselves not them, photographs of us together, evidence of communication between us, document indicating public recognition of the partnership, evidence of the parties being committed to each other both emotionally and exclusively. Marriage certificate which we sent. It was my wedding anniversary yesterday been married thirty years i say to my other half if i had committed murder i would be out by now. Please can anyone tell me how i can prove that emotionally and exclusivity is part of my life, sorry if this is more of a rant but i just dont believe that they want more proof i am new at all of this.

Hi Jools

Mmmm can't see why NZIS won't accept what you have sent already. It might seem a bit excessive, But maybe to satisfy them big time, bundle all your evidence up and take or send it to them.

Someone on here who is applying/applied via the work visa route might (will) know more than me.

Chaps any help????

Good luck with your application though. Hold the dream

its unbelievable isn't it? We are going up next week to get my OH his work visa based on a job offer and are going to try to persuade them to do it asap cos he is due to start work on 17th Oct.We thought that that is the one it would be difficult to get and hadn't even worried about mine or the kids , we just thought that they would be no problem.
Obviously after reading your post we have to worry about them as well .I wish I was one of those people who lost weight due to stress! The reverse happens to me!
We have got bills in joint names , in each of our names singly , marriage certificate and now we will sort out some photos of us together but it really is beyond a joke. What else can you send?
We have been married for 13 years, have 3 children together , what else can they need. How can you prove commitment emotionally and exclusively?
It make you wonder if they really want us there at all .You are obviously a skilled nurse and would be a asset to NZ .My husband has a job offer from a company who can't find anyone in NZ skilled enough to do his job so you would think that they would welcome us with open arms wouldn't you?
All I can say is that those who are successful must really want it bad cos no one would put themselves through this much hassle and stress unless they were desperate to go! May be that is the idea!
Can you tell that I have had a bad day and there is no wine in the house?
Best of luck , let us know how you choose to proceed

Hi Denise/Jools and anyone in similar boat.
My partner (AHHH not married, living in sin for 12 yrs with 2 kids) is about to apply for a work visa before we leave for NZ on 1st Nov. He's applying under skilled stream-general work category (no suitable New Zealanders to fill his post). Can I just ask you both what your applications were for? Were they general work, WTR, talent, other? Were they for 2 yrs plus?
Also, what is the issue with partners/wives. I assumed he would just apply for himself and I could only come over on the automatic holiday visa (as I have no job offer) and would apply for student visas for children to attend school. Why are both of you on application - is this because you both have jobs or is it because a partner/spouse can get a work permit on the back of their other half's work permit for a job offer.
Sorry to be nosey, I'm trying to work out how your experience may relate to what we plan to do and i'm really worried about this now. the paperwork makes it seem straightforward. Irony is, we could apply for PR as we have enough points with the job offer but couldn't really face the hassle when we don't even know if we want to live there yet (hence we are coming for a 6 month stay initially). but if a work visa is as much hassle.....AHHHHH!!!!!
Yours desperately and confused!!! Hannah

Hi Hannah
You and me both , worried that is!
We are also intending to apply for a general work visa (no suitable NZ for the job).We have job offer, Form N113, letter from agency saying no New Zealander can do the job, copy of Paul's work history and a copy of Paul's qualification although this is not recognised in NZ as the skill does not exsist!
I will apply under the Family Stream based on Paul being a Visa holder(hopefully!).This means I will be able to work whilst I am there.
Hope this helps.Where in NZ are you going?
Good luck with your application , let us know how things work out and if you have anything that I haven't mentioned above , please let us know!

hi Jools,
Yep this emotion and exclusive relationship one caused us some concern, (Im not on any of the utility bills and never changed to my married name) but the agent dealing with our application advised that we send the last joint bank statment and 1 from at least a yr ago and so far so good with NZIS. We have 2 children but that doesn't seem to count for anything.
IMHO may be worth taking the childrens birth certificates even though they are adult because of the sponsorship issue. We are appling for a PR and they wanted details of everyone we could sponsor over at a later date. I seem to remember that there has been a recent change to say you need details, (may even be medicals) for children who you are not in custody of in case you want to sponsor them later. Sorry no clear info on this as both of mine are at the rug rat stage.
All the best
Debbie

Hi All, Well truly confused now spoke to a lady this pm on the phone who told me they wanted work history so letter i got from work today saying i had been with them and where i worked previously was okay. But then she threw a spanner in the works and said that if i wanted to stay as my job is permanent i would have to send in medicals etc i said i was not planning on staying at the moment and she said i would have to convince the officer that i was going to return when 2yrs is up. I have sent it all off again gaurantee delivery before 1pm tomorrow but feel if it is still not right then they can stuff it, I dont think I will bother. They only want birth certs if children travelling with you.

Thanks for your replies. We are not sure what to do. Don't know how long job offer will be for as we are waiting to hear, but we are about to book return flights for end of April when we go to travel agents at weekend. (We currently have return booked for Jan as we bought ticket so early). We will be in New Zealand for 5 months and 3 weeks. I'm wondering now what will happen if job offer is for more than 6 months - will they challenge us on why we have return flights booked for just under 6 months.
I'm really confused. The 'guide to working in new zealand' booklet doesn't cover a lot of this stuff and doesn't tell you what to send as proof for each question. For example, what is evidence of work experience? CV? Job descriptions? Employer references? If a registered nurse can't prove their skills what hope does a bloke who has worked for years in service engineering and house maintenance without qualifications have of convincing the NZIS. Am seriously wondering if this is all too complicated and may be easier if we just apply for work permit when we arrive (although my partner will be expected to start work almost immediately!!). we've got student visas to worry about too!!!!
Good luck all of you going through same wondering times!! I'm going to New Plymouth by the way.
