Will we be able to rent FURNISHED accommodation for a 3 month period in /around parmerston North, or are all rentals for 6 months and unfurnished.??

Sorry Paul don't know the answer to this one seen as we are in Rangiora near CHCH.
We managed to get a furnished place here but through talking to people I think we were lucky most places seem to be un-furnished.
The ones that are furnished like ours anre a lot more expensive than the unfurnished.
We are looking for un/f now we think it is cheeper to buy some make do furniture whilst waiting for ours to arrive.
What does everyone else think

I'll ask Dave for the e-mail address of an estate agent he used in PN. I spoke to her and got her card while he was having his interview. He said she was very efficient.
He got a furnished apartment in what is essentially two hi-tech blocks of flats for students. Very small though, only designed for one person not a family. It's called The Hub and there is an internet set. Unfortunately the address is on my computer that's being shipped to NZ. I imagine you're looking for family accomodation.

haven't rented ourselves but have heard there are some companies about that rent furniture by the month. I do know that there is alot of rental and very often it can just be rented by the month rather than a fixed term.

We've just rented a house in Wellington which is unfurnished - not many furnished rentals around and those that are seem to be slightly more expensive.
I second the 'make do' furniture - we've bought a lounge suite, fridge freezer and queen size bed out of the Trade & Exchange paper - it's all in brilliant condition and will certainly do til we get high flying jobs and can buy new! :)

Oh yeah - and try and rent out of the paper instead of using an agent - we went to an agent and they charge 2 weeks rent as their admin fee, and the houses they showed us weren't anything special.
We got our house through the classifieds in the local paper. Didn't have to pay any fees and the bond you give (2 weeks rent we gave) goes to an agency that holds it for you until you move out, so it doesn't sit in the landlords account gaining interest for a year - it's all done quite efficiently and practicaly (and really quick too!)
