Thougth I'd put in some quotes we've had. I'll add to them when/if we get more.
1. Masons (Local South Wales Firm)
20ft Container. Full pack and export wrap, Door to Door.
£3487.00. Insurance: 3% of total cost, minimum £60.
Their 40ft container would be between £4800 and £5500.

Ours was £3460 with Crown a couple of months ago, did not bother with a separate insurance and went with theirs, but did it carefully, ie listed all our own stuff and I think ended up paying about 300, instead of their volume insurance which would have been at least triple that.

All
We opted for Whites (plymouth) - they packed our 3 bed into a 20ft container, we which had space on the back for £2880. The 20ft should have been a reefer but was a normal one when it arrived, the crew was excellent (whites don't subcontract) and everything arrived as perfectly as it was despatched. We also decided not to take out the optional insurance.
We were shipped staright away and that worked out well, but if they do offer you free storage - arange for it in the UK not NZ. Because the message doesn't get through from the sales man to Auckland.
GB gave a similiar quote, but theirs included self pack on breakables, and my other quote was off the scale (Avalon).
Remember to trade them off, you usually want to go with the guy in the middle and he'll usually match the guy at the bottom.

White and Co £3375 for 20 foot refer, pack door to door, insurance quoted 3%
Bishops Move £3225 Insurance 2.75
Total loss insurance 0.004 (£4 for every £1000)
Doree Bonner £3254 but 9-14 weeks transfer for sole use.
Am lost on all this insurance as on another post I just put up.
Think will go with White and Co and try and get their price down seems I am paying more than I should if I compare with others. Not taking up the whole of a 20 ft container but too much for groupage.

I have pm'd your insurance query.
Whites will barter, you won't have to drop any names either.
Bear in mind you may be paying extra on the 'job' for travelling and Chch as opposed to AKL.

Got a quote from Britannia down at Bournemouth - £1622, that was for 8 cubic metres (part load). With a car, this was £3610. So without the car this quote is probably cheaper than most might expect because we don't have much gear.

We have PSS coming round friday. Any one else used them? I have asked them round to quote as they are very local for us. We will need storage for a while too.
Update; pss have e-mailed an initial estimate based on my list of items to ship. 556cubic feet, they pack and ship door to door. £2345 plus the vodka.

Got the quote from GB Liners on Saturday £3895 for 20' and £1895 for the car roll-on roll-off
They must use a random number generator for these, thats the only logic I can think of!
The guy in our logistics dept owes me a favour and said to give him the lowest quote so he can sort it out.. Go for it!

I'm really jealous. I've been trying for ages to even get a shipping company in france to take us seriously. We've only got stuff to fill a 1 bed-room flat and none of the shipping companies seem to be interested at all. They seem to want us to have a massive mansion or something. I really don't get it..
Cheers

Burke Bros gave us a final quote on friday of £5530 for a 40' with car + 2.1% insurance, Crown were round yesterday and I hinted majorly at the above and that the lowest quote would get it next week, so heres hoping!
I really hate these dutch auctions especialy as both were quite nice guys, but you've got to go through the loop, none of my orig quotes came in under £6K so it's really worth doing it.
I'm sure whatever I take I'll get clobered with some unforeseen cost.

Isn't it scary the cost? I thought about what we were taking and then thinking about how much we would spend down there to replace it - then the kids toys entered the equation and I was shot down by the wife..... :laugh

We had Britannia round yesterday. Very impressive, very professional and very reassuring. Mind you, it comes at a price. Initial suggestion was £3,900 + 3% insurance for a 20' container, although I suspect the written quote will be slightly less than that. Got Crown coming round shortly as a comparision.
(That's my relo allowance blown before we even look at flight costs!)
Anyone recommend any other firsm in the North West area (around Manchester)? To be honest, I'm a little wary about goining for a smaller independent firm, because you just don't know what you'll get
