Hiya ANdy
There is a member on another forum who lives there and absolutely raves about the place. As I am not sure about the etiquette of cross referencing another forum, please PM me for info if required
(Linda - its right down south)

Hi, Andy,
Welcome to the forum!
I know little about Invercargill except it is cold. My husband, a native Kiwi, has numerous times regaled me with stories about scraping the frost off the (single-paned) windows -- from the inside -- while visiting the rellies down Invercargill way. This is a man who would snow ski in his underwear if allowed. And he vividly remembers how cold he was in Invercargill during the winter months!
Anyway, perhaps you love the cold weather and will adore the place. I also understand property prices are extremely reasonable compared with the rest of NZ at the moment. I wonder why....
Best of luck to you in your immigration adventures! - Rae

Thanks everyone for the replies - I guess cold is a relative subject, living on the east coast of Essex winters here are generally cold, damp, and foggy, except when they are cold, damp and windy that is.
Anyone have idea of the average rainfall - the one thing we do have going for us here is that it is one of the driest areas of the country.
Best Regards
Andy

Hi Andy, I must admit I'm not a huge fan of Invercargill. Rows and rows of samey, mediocre grey looking bungalows. I've only ever been there in winter though, maybe it looks a bit brighter on a sunny summer's day?
Invercargill gets less sunshine and more rainy days than any other town in New Zealand. Some beautiful countryside around it though. :nice1
(Towns on the SI's west coast like Hokitika and Greymouth get a few more wet days than Invercargill.)

Hi
I have visited Invercargill and found it to be quite a delightful town with a good range of shops and a great park. Of course it is somewhat isolated from the rest of NZ.
I have done some research on many aspects of weather for all parts of NZ and with regard to rainfall, using available stats over the past 30 years, Invercargill has on average 1112 mms of rain per year. This is less than Auckland, Wellington, New Plymouth and Rotorua, but more than most other places, including Dunedin and Christchurch.
I was there in November of last year (November and December being the wettest months) and the weather was quite good.
It was the remoteness that got me. We travelled there from my mother's home in Milton ( about an hour south of Dunedin) and it seemed to take forever to get there. Milton is very cold in the winter and I guess therefore that Invercargill is even colder.
