Hi everyone, thought I would jot down a few thoughts which may allow my over active mind to chill out a bit.
We have just completed the god forsaken task of completing one work visa application, one family work visa application, and 3 student visa applications. We have job offer letters, terms and conditions of employment, employer form 1113 proof of quals, proof of work experience, proof of our marriage, police certs , medicals certs and x ray certs .Do you think we have forgotten anything? My OH decided to break 2 bones in his hand last week and so cannot write (or do anything really!) with his hand in plaster so it has all been down to me .Unfortunately this also means that I will probably get the blame if they find any mistakes!
We are going up to NZ House on Wednesday to ask (plead, beg!) if they can do Pauls visa at least in double quick time as he is due to start work on 17th October! Keeping everything crossed!
T o change the subject , our families are reacting in very different ways.I told my mum and dad back in Jan that we were thinking of going and they chose simply to ignore it and never spoke of it again .I then had to raise the subject again 2 weeks ago as we will hopefully be going soon.To our faces they were distraught but said they understood (but they would never fly over and see us so our Goodbyes would be our final goodbyes) However since then they have chosen the 'head in the sand' attitude again and won't ask anything and if I do mention NZ they simply change the subject.
Pauls family have a rather different attitude and are throwing us (well Paul really) a big party with over 100 people , disco , food etc .However most of the people going we haven't seen for years and some I have never met! We are really not looking forward to such a fuss but appreciate them for wanting to do something.Similarily Paul's sister wants to take us out for a meal and has promised to come over next summer as has his cousin .His mum and stepdad say they will be out next year and dad and stepmum the year after .His step sister has already saved up the money for her fare.Which is all great .My brother on the other hand, says it is too far to take his children and I haven't heard from any other members of my family .Apparantly it is because they all think I am acting irresponsibly and not facing up to my responsibilties (ie my parents).
Good job I have a thick skin eh?
On a positive note the house sale seems to be going through without a hitch , actually it may be going too smoothly and me and the kids may have to look for somewhere else to go as I am going to try and stay here until half term for the kids sake.Paul will go as soon as as he has to spend the first month in Auckland , Hamilton and Wellington.Hopefully by the time we get there he will be sorted and we can head for Tauranga together to begin the process of buying a house , schools etc.
Ok rant over .Anyone who is thinking of travelling down this path , please take note , you will never do such a difficult thing either emotionally or mentally. I am exhausted after 9 months of stress.
However I hope that in a few months time I will be able to post that despite everything it has all been worthwhile. Here's hoping!
Thanks for reading
Denise

Hi Denise,
So it wasn't just me screaming in Kent this weekend, (See thanks for the support thread). I hope Paul's hand is better soon, it would be a real shame if he can't life up those celebratory drinks. I sure all the stress and hassel will be long forgotten in the NZ sun. I've become quite addicted to watching that NZ advert on thecomputer thanks to Gil's link. It just reminds me why I'm putting up with all this...
You have done the hardest bits, your reward is just around the corner hold on in there.
Debbie.

Nice post Denise,

Glad your parents have said their bit, even if they have decided to not speak about it again, it is something you will be able to take with you, instead of it hanging over you like a dull cloud.

Arent families so different? You should enjoy the farewell party. Get your glad rags on and your party shoes and have a really good night. We did at ours.

Doing the visa applications is a mare' isn't it? Have I done this or have I done that!! I re-read over ours loads and loads of times. Its one of the worst jobs you have to encounter in the move. I'm sure you have done them ok.

Good luck on Wednesday.:clap

Hi Denise

Isn't it amazing the different reactions we are all getting from families and friends. Well enjoy the party, shall I send a box of straws for the invalids drinks?

It's probably a good thing for you all inc the kids, to be able to say 'See you soon' instead of goodbye.

The minute you all get off that plane in NZ, the stress will melt away.

Good luck with the house sale too.

Deborah
