Can anyone tell me where I can get my medicals/xrays cheap....down here in Devon it's 77 pounds each for the xrays let alone anything else....and we're a family of 4

Hello Sarah,

I was quoted £80 each for the medical, £40 each for x-rays and
£20 each for blood tests but this was deemed quite reasonable by all at more advanced stages. Is that quote from a doctor on the panel?

Yep it was a quote from doctors on the panel....but then I live in an expensive part of the country so what more can I expect?.......I'm going to book it all in Brmingham I think....visit my family at the same time

Think you'll do right...I used to live in Plymouth for about ten years, and I can't see justification for a £37 difference! Still, can't live without 'em...

I was under the impression children don't need Xrays just medical.

We paid £320 for a family of 4, 2 adults plus 2 children 2yrs old.

You would have to travel to Birmingham though! I would contact a few on the NZIS list and be prepared to have a day out......there are some nice canals in Brum!...........More than Venice you know!

Sarah Jane

I've given the details of my panel doctor out so many times, I can't remember whether I have passed them onto you or not.

We had ours done in Birmingham.

1 x adult x-ray
1 x adult blood est
1 x adult medical
2 x childrens medical

total cost = 195.00

Veronica is right, if your kids are under 11 (or heck - is it 15 - will need to check on that) - they only need the medical, no x-rays or blood tests.

PM me if you want the address and phone number.

we had ours done last week
x-rays £70
VDRL blood tests £30
medical £80
for each adult :eek

make sure you book them plenty of time in advance if you need them doing, some of the panel doctors have a 6 week lead time. I had to go to Cambridge 100 miles away as they had a cancellation a week later.
they do the X-rays and medicals in the same building on the same day, some of the listed ones mean you have to have the medical at one hospital/sugery and x-rays at another.
got the results back today and all ok :cheers

Down on the costa del Dover its £330 for 2 adults and 2 children, we thought that was expensive. Know what you mean about the sinking bank balance though, still house completes in the next couple of weeks :raebanana.

( You could come to Dover have your meds, then go and stock up on cheap booze, fags, and toblerone, to undo all the good work you did to get to the medicals) :cheers

Now you come to mention it Linda - I don't think they checked anything with my family GP.

In fact - when we sat and went through the long list of 'have you ever suffered with ?????' questions and the yes/no answers, the doc just cast a quick eye over each page, very litte was discussed at any length (if at all).

As for the boys, the doc just chatted with them, asked them whether they were excited about going to NZ and questions like that. He remarked how good their teeth were and shone a light into their ears - but as far as going through each item on their forms .... well he just didn't do it.

Makes you wonder how they manage to charge anything at all - must be very easy money for them.

I was told the panel doctor at Dover was a miserable sod (and this was by my kidney consultant's secretary). Was she right?

The panel doctor is our former gp, neither of us got along with him very well! :no So don't know wether to use him or not?

The xrays have to be done at Buckland Hospital! Did they mean the radiologist?

It was the doctor himself who was supposed to be really arrogant. Because of this and the fact I have kidney and gynae problems that needed explaining, I had my medical done at Knightsbridge at a centre who did the x-rays at the same time. Glad I did as the doctor was really "interested" in my conditions and wasn't prepared to sign my medical off until we had a medical report from my Kidney Consultant backing up my application. My Kidney Consultant also wants to emigrate to NZ so he wrote a really favourable report for me! When it comes to having medicals done for the rest of the family I might use the Dover GP just for convenience, although it was nice having an excuse to go to Harrods
