Due To The Increase In Internet House Sales I Think It Would Be A Great Idea For Someone On Here (i Would Do It Myself But I Bet There Is Someone Who Has More Talent) Who Could Start Up A Site To Sell Our Houses In Uk & Nz (and Us & Europe Etc Etc)
We Would Provide The Photos And Details Etc, And Then Someone Would Upload Them All Onto One Site!
We Could Pay Say £15 Each And This Would Pay Towards The Search Engine Fees Etc???
Any Takers?? Just Sick Of The Wait And The Agents Like Everyone Else!!
Mine Is Currently With An Agent And I Have Paid £130 To List On A Private Website. Had Plenty Of Viewers (but Most Havent Sold). Had An Offer (but They Too Havent Sold).
Maybe For Starters We Could Just Start A Thread With Basic Details - Then If Anyone Knows Someone Who Is Looking For A House We Can Get More Info!?!?!
Mine Is:
Shipley, West Yorkshire
Det. 4 Bed/study/dbl Garage/1 Year Old/views
Any Takers???

Sorry, dont know how I missed this thread. I think you would have to square anything along these lines with Douglas before starting anything. After all, it is his baby.
A small postscript. We put our house with an agent on Sat. just gone, and have our first viewer due in about 5 minutes. The board only went up yesterday........panic time :wah

Like Tim, I've also only just seen this but I think it's a great idea. If you could get it up and running it would get our support.

May last year our house sold to the 2nd viewer. The flat has now had over 12 viewers in the 3 weeks its been on the market and no offers - I still have a tenant in it and wonder if that is putting people off. :(

Probably should have "no onward chain" on your details and consider going multi agency as you will get more exposure (haggle on the fees to make sure you don't pay anymore than you are now) . It worked for our sale earlier in year (about 10 miles away from you!)
Good luck! :nice1

Thanks Paul
Tried that, yes printed details have 'no onward chain' on them, i'll have to speak to them about the 'rightmove' site!!!
We have been with multiple agencies for a month @ 2%, gave them all a month to fight it out (so to speak) as hubby's deadline was looming & said they have a month whoever gets most viewers will get 'sole agency' at the end of it. Original estate agent got the most viewers (9 in the month) so we have gone back to sole agency with them again.
Looks like we may have someone to rent to though, they are emigrating to Canada, have sold their house and are not planning to go until May 2006. So hopefully original estate agent can keep the potential buyers (who have not sold yet) sweet and we can sell to one of them in May!!!!
I'll keep dreaming!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think everyone in Uk should put their house on ebay and all those in NZ on trademe!
If everyone did it then it would be the only place to look!!
I know there will be some out of work estate agents - but people always need binmen and cleaners!
We now have 2 offers (both need to sell theirs!)

Just wait till you get to NZ, estate agents fees are about 3 times higher than the UK

If you look under "All categories" there is a Properties section
http://everythingelse.listings.ebay.co.uk/Properties_W0QQfromZR4QQsacatZ10542QQsocmdZListing ItemList
There are 157 properties on there at the moment and some even have bids on them! It appears to cost £35 to list a property.

Fantastic news Moorf!! :raebanana :raebanana
How did you swing that one? Did your buyers see it on the web or the more trad route, estate agent's window?
Ours has been on for about 5 weeks now, and we had our first viewers yesterday. They seemed to like the house, but I wouldn't hold my breath on it!
Really pleased for you :clap

Gil,
The flat was advertised in local paper, in estate agent window and on their website. Have had, in total, 12 viewings since it went on the market about 3 weeks ago or so.
I did drop the price to 105k from 109k as it was being sold fully furnished and she doesn't want any of it plus she wanted to offer 102k (cheeky mare!) so I compromised since it's a cash sale and she wants it to go through as quickly as a solicitor can do it. So if anyone in UK wants a washer/dryer (1 yr old), a dishwasher (1 yr old) or a fridge (old!) then drop me a line! Ebay here I come....
B/World - I'll enquire about northern bound rellies!! :D

Thanks Moorf, that's cool. We've only had the one viewing in 5-6 weeks, using good Cardiff estate agent who does newspaper splash and website. This is ours:http://www.rightmove.co.uk/viewdetails-4714339.rsp?pa_n=9&tr_t=buy (http://www.rightmove.co.uk/viewdetails-4714339.rsp?pa_n=9&tr_t=buy)
So if you know of anyone who wants an odd shaped house in Cardiff, this is their chance!!
Cheers,
Gil

Gil,
I had a chat with my agent re house sales timings in the UK when it first went on the market as I needed to try and minimise the time that my flat was empty/not being rented (luckily tenant moves out end Oct and I hope to have sale sorted for day after!!). Anyway, I mentioned that I had heard of others who were finding it hard to sell, or that it was taking a long time etc, or people making lower offers - all of which worried me.
I was told that I should expect offers slightly lower than asking price - which is why I went with the slightly elevated asking price initially. I was also advised that the slowest moving properties were the larger ones (3 beds upwards) and that I'd get more viewings as it was a small flat. Don't ask me why that might be - estate agents often say what they think their clients want to hear - so it may be nonsense. Perhaps with prices stablising the renters/first time buyers are venturing out into the property market? I can't say I'm too au fait with the UK market these days....
I hope your viewings pick up soon, fingers crossed :nice1

Hi Gil
I can really relate to what you're saying. We've been on for 2 1/2 months and have a really nice house and a very good part of Harrogate - the house is completely renovated (so no work needs doing) and we make sure it's immaculate for viewings, but they've completely tailed off since September. Nothing for nearly 3 weeks and it's very disheartening (had a no-show a couple of weeks ago). We've reduced the price, but we need to get people round. Everyone says once you get to November, there's no chance till spring. Has anyone else had any experience of this?
Good luck with yours!
Kate

At the time we started selling ours (March/April), the 3 bed and ups were not moving either, specially detached ones as people could just not afford them, all the lower end properties were being snapped up really quickly, this was the feedback I got from nearly all of the sales folks in the Agents I worked for.
However its not impossible, we sold, and so can you!
We made a decision of the minimum we could accept and still be able to do the move and afford a house here, and luckily got a little more than that.
Good luck folks......

Thanks guys, it's so encouraging to know you've been through/are going through the same AND that you got there!!
So, the power of positive thinking comes into play again. Kate, repeat after me: Wow, how fantastic that we've sold for the full asking price!!:raebanana
Good luck, and thanks for the encouragement,
Gil
