hi everyone, this is our first post.we have been looking into nz for a long time now and alough we would like to start a business in nz ,we dont think that we would get a ltbv,so it is work visa time.
as i have a class 1 hgv it looks like that is the best route to go,but what is it like to be a truck driver in nz ?has anyone else moved over on a general visa and then turned that into pr ?would i have to work for the same company for 2 years before i could apply for pr ? help !so many questions, sorry.
i have done a search and there was someone on this site who seemed to know a lot on the hgv side of things, are they still around ?seems the last post was a while ago, hope so.
well think that is enough for our first post, please be kind, thanks for now.

Hi Kev
Welcome to the forum. :clap
I know absolutely nothing about HGV in NZ but just wanted to say welcome. :D
I've done a quick search but couldn't find who you were talking about. Did you get a name? I'm sure they wouldn't mind if you sent them a pm.
Have you put in your EOI yet?

Kev, i'm the one your looking for. I have a job offer from NZ to go in and drive HGV1 vehicles. Unsure whether you know that the role of Class 1 (class 5) in NZ is on the immediate skills list. I am going on a two year work visa, with the intention to apply for PR once i have a few months experience in NZ. I don't think you will get PR from the immediate skills list without a job offer. I have been very fortunate in getting the offer, but this was after applying for jobs and mailing various company's out there.
The only advice i can give you is to contact company's out there via the yellow pages in NZ, take a look on the NZ herald website (jobs section) and see what is available, submit your details with seek(www.seek.co.nz (http://www.seek.co.nz)) and other various job sites and see what materialise's. Take a look at a company website called Halls (www.halls.co.nz (http://www.halls.co.nz)) and contact them. I do know they recruit from the UK without you having to go over. Its all done over the phone, but i can't promise anything.
You mention about taking a trip out. Maybe this wouldn't be a bad idea, as the company's i spoke to suggested this would be ideal for them, as it is very hard for them to assess you here, while they are there.
If you have any questions and i can answer them don't hesitate to PM me.
Kim

Good luck to you Kev.
Kim is a mine of information and a good bloke to boot!!
Thanks to his help and advice my hubby Neil has a job waiting for him as an HGV driver with Hall's in Auckland.
We've got the Visas and are raring to go - if we could just sell this bl**dy house we'd be off like a shot!!
Feel free to ask away - lots of good folk on here always willing to lend a hand.
