Hi - my freight arrives from the UK in about a week and getting a bit panicky about whether the LCD TV which I bought in the UK will work here as well. Does anyone know if it will be OK.
Thanks
Jade

The best thing you can do is email/ring the manufacturer and ask. Both UK and NZ use PAL system but..
NZ use PAL with a 'B' Audio carrier.
UK uses PAL with a 'G' audio carrier.

We bought a 42" plasma a few months back, emailed Hitachi and guess what it wont work....bummer. A couple of ways around it is to either get Sky or buy a cheap video recorder and watch TV through that.

Hope you wont have this problem.

Can't better that, nice on Dazza. To clarify for you Jade, the audio carrier is set apart from the video carrier (the carrier is the frequency that the video and audio information is superimposed onto) by a certain amount. So the TV is designed to "accept" a composite tv signal that fits it's criteria. It is done by filters and some clever electronics internally.
Some TV's are able to be used on both systems, most not. So use the sky/video box to decode the tv signals and leave your telly on channel0 6. You will be o.k. If you have any probs with this, give me a pm and I'll see what I can do to help.

Hope that helps

Steve

Thanks a million Dazza and Stevie for this. Will wait for it to arrive and set up as per your instructions. If I have further problems, will PM Steve.

Jade - if it is new, as I suspect it is, then you should be fine - most modern sets now have the option to work in most countries. We simply plugged ours in and went straight to the Menu and tried all the "country" options until we found one that worked - all working fine in 5 mins:nice1

Our slightly older set does have to go through Sky - again, no big problem.

Thanks Neil. I bought it in Jan 04, I don't know if that is classed as new.

I checked with Philips and they said our LCD TV would work over there, just have to do the set up again.

Let us know how you get on.

Ours is a Philips too - it has an extra 2 pin plug so we are guessing it will work over there.

will take it anyway as Rob says he'll us it for a HUGE monitor for the pc than sell it for peanuts! :D

We simply changed the plug on our LCD TV, plugged it in, went to auto scan and hey presto!
