Haven't been on here for awhile - and as I went shopping yesterday - thought I'd post the prices for anyone interested.

Real Fresh is a fruit and veg place. It is cheaper for somethings than woolworths.

Bananas:$1.69/kg
Mushrooms:$7.99/kg
Cucumber:$2.99
(These were $4 a couple of weeks ago)
Broccoli:$0.99/head
Asparagus:$1.99/250g
(New Season - these are $3.99 in Woolies)
Courgettes:$6.99/kg
Carrots:$1.99/kg
Spring Onion bunch:$1.49
Green Pepper: $1.99
(These have been as little as 50c, Red/Orange/Yellow all $2.49 at mo)
Chillis:$19.95/kg
Royal Gala apples:$1.69/kg
Red Delicious apples:$1.99/kg
(Braeburn $3.99)
Kiwifruit:$2.99/kg
(we normally buy these at the farmers market about a dozen for $1)
Kumara (Gold): $3.99/kg
(Has been as low as $1.99)

Woolworths is not as expensive as New World or Foodtown, but not as cheap as Countdown or Pak 'n' Save. However most have specials, and these special prices are the same across the board. Pak n Save doesn't really have specials, but their prices are lower, so you save that way - like Asda in the UK I suppose.
Hellers London Pride Sausages $8.99/kg
(not the cheapest, but the only commercially made ones I will eat)
Kleenex 12 pack loo roll: $6.99 (special, normally $8)
Burgen Bread: 2 for $5 (normally $3.05 each)
(Vogels is $3.20 each)
Flour 1.5kg: $2.91
Cous Cous 500g:$2.64
Lasagne sheets 500g:$2.64
Special at mo normal price $2.8
Cold Power Detergent 1kg:$4.05
Cuddly Softener 1L:$3.58
Tin Toms $1.43
(can get tins for 99c)
Tin Beetroot 225g:$1.09
Kids Pick n Mix sweets:$10.90/kg
Rissotto rice 500g:$3.09
Ready washed salad greens 130g: $3.99
Butter fridge soft 250g:$2.45
Kumeu River Merlot: $12.95
(special at mo $9 off)
Mixed Frozen Berries 500g:$5.14
Milk 1L:$1.91
Tasty Cheese 700g $8.05
(special normally $10.30)
Toffeepops $1.99
(normally $3)
Tim Tams $1.99
(normally $3)

Not everything we buy - we don't buy heaps of meat, but when we do we get it from the butcher or the local organic place. We buy our fish from the fishmonger rather than the supermarket - I like to know where all that has been sourced from.
Mince you can normally get somewhere for $9/kg
Chicken breasts can be got for about $13 although the mad butcher does it for $9 occasionally
Fish - well can be anythying. Snapper/Hapuka/Dory are all around $24/kg
Gurnard/Terahiki about $20/kg

Hope this helps someone

Cheers Radders, great stuff.
You really should make friends with some of the local fishermen rather than pay $24 per kilo.

Better still, buy a rod and get out there yourself, eh !!

Fortunately I am able to catch my own occasionally - as I only buy fish caught by certain methods. It is actually illegal to buy fish that has not gone through the quota system. It happens, but it's not something I agree with.

Prices must vary regionally, there are two supermarkets where we are in Rangiora, and New World is cheaper than Woolworths here.

Best of all for fruit and veg are the farm shops - there are plenty of them around here and prices for fresh fruit and veg are around half of what you would pay in the supermarket.

As for the fish, I'm still working on that..................
