Has anyone read a book called "A Land of Two Halves" by Joe Bennett? It's supposed to be a bit like Bill Bryson (although anyone would have to go a very long way to match him, IMHO) and is about a trip around NZ by someone who went there for a short contract and stayed.
I'd love to hear your thoughts,
Gil
PS Sorry if this is the wrong forum, wasn't sure if it should be The Lounge or here

Hi Ivy, Steve and I have just started reading it. And we also have all the Bill Brysons!! I absolutely love him, he makes me laugh out loud all the time. What do you like to read? We have a Reading Group in our road, so that gives me the incentive to read stuff I wouldn't normally pick. Perhaps I should move this thread to The Lounge, and get some recommendations going!Right,
I'm off to bed now, having waited for a telephone second interview from NZ that doesn't seem to have materialised :(
Good night!
Gil

Yeah, I've read it. It's pretty good...he does tend to be a bit cynical at times, and seems to actively dislike many places he visits, but an entertaining read on the whole.
His column in the Dom Post is pretty good too..

As far as travel books go, if you like Bryson you should check out Pete McCarthy.
Actually..this is a helluva shock - I've just had a look at his site & it appears that he died last year! Jeez...didn't know that. A damn shame.
