I am a qualified electrician in the UK and was gonna go as a skillled migrant but cant submit my EOI untill i have registered as an NZ sparky, which means i need to secure a job first as the employer has to countersign the registration.

I dont really want to make a trip there to sort this, then trip back home again before going out there for good with the family- i would rather just sell up and make the one trip together.

I can go on a work to residence visa and submit my EOI with mega points once i am working, but what visa should my (nonworking) wife use, what visa should my 2 schoolage boys use, and what visa should my 2 unskilled but working age boys use, and how long will the visas last (hopefully long enough for the EOI to become a ITA then PR)

the NZ immig site is not clear on this does anyone know? :roll

Hi Charlosparky,
While I know you have to be registered as a Sparky in NZ, I believe you can still submit your EOI and proceed along that route with your dependants hanging off your application.. Your quals will have to be assessed by NZQA at ITA stage and your registration can take place in your country of origin I think ( small exam ). The only draw back that I know of with registered occupations is that you won't be offered PR initially on application, but a WTR visa. You will have to work in said trade for 3 months and have the documentation and employer to backup your claim and will then be able to apply for PR within NZ without worry.
There's a bloke on the forum who knows all the in's and out's about exactly what you're trying to achieve, he's known as Markyspark. Try sending him a PM, or maybe do a search for his threads, he was a mine of info'. I know he's in NZ now and working.

Good luck mate

John

thanks for your help chaps. ;)

i have read Markysparks posts- it took 8 wks to sort his licence, so gonna try sorting it all whilst in uK, so checked your link Kim39 and sent my CV- i'll let u Know the outcome.

Still not sure though, if i cant sort a job whilst in the UK and go on a Work to Residence visa, do my wife and kids go on that or do they need seperate visas and how long do they last?

Also has anyone bought these immigration packs from NZIS and are they woth th £60odd quid?
