Hi,
I'm planning to move to NZ in a few months and would like to leave some calling cards behind for my family to be able to contact me. Has anyone found a good deal on cards for calls to New Zealand from the US? Ideally the minutes would not expire quickly and it would be possible to top off the card rather than buy a new one when it runs out.

Thanks!

Hi Brian,
I too am soon moving from the states to Wellington. If you plan on having a computer and a high speed internet connection in NZ you might want to check out skype.com. It lets you call over the net to a regular phone for $0.02US a min.

Hi Brian,

I don't know about calling cards, but with SBC in Los Angeles they have a plan where you pay a fee of $3.95 per month and calls to NZ are 8 cents per minute. The plan also gives you cheap calls to other countries - 7 cents per minute to Scotland, e.g.

Well, I personally have a VOIP line. It costs about $30 US per month and you get unlimited calls between the US, Canada and Mexico. It gave me a local Nebraska phone number. All I had to do was connect it to the modem they sent me. You do have to have high speed internet though.

The web address is www.vonage.com. If you have any questions, just pm me. It was/is well worth it to get this line. My daughter talks to my mother almost every day.
