Been looking at the price and availability of flights and they seem to have gone more expensive plus they are booking up very fast.
Apparently its a busy time of year so if anyone is waiting for the house to complete and needs to go in the next month it seems to be difficult.
also anyone flown with quantus and got a 40kg luggage allowance?

We've been watching this too Blue. Scary. But we really can't book anything till we exchange! I guess we'll be at the mercy of the airlines when we finally come to book. I think December is the 'official' high season when tickets really get expensive.

Although I am in the Netherlands I managed to book two oneway tickets last week leaving 22 Nov for Euro 1,020.00 incl. all costs. From 24/11 the middle season starts for one week and then the high season is on.
So you'd better move fast if you can - to get a cheap price.
Sometimes, they do a special rate for certain dates as well, that is how I got this deal.
Just surf the net and search sites which compare prices and the airline sites. Mine I got cheapest direct at Singapore Airlines online - not available by phone or any other means.
Good luck,
Anita

Hi I have put a flight on hold for the 9th Oct. Its with quantas and I talked them into letting me have a 40kg luggage allowance which I will have in writting and going to ensure that I get that on the internal flight from Auckland to Napier.
The cost is 499.00 with 160.00 on top for tax. Stop off in Singapore 80.00 pounds for 3 nights then on top of that 125.00 for Auckland to Napier with tax of 14.00.
Grand total 878 quid.
Now this is on hold untill thursday and if the contract is not signed on the sale will try and hold it again.
It seems really difficult to get a reasonably priced flight at the moment.

Hello there Blue
Is that prices for one person? Seems awful expensive Auck-Napier. After all that flying, I would prefer to drive that leg; there's some nice quiet roads to relax and take in the scenery.
Cheers

Had real trouble getting last minute flights especially on the Hong kong - AKL leg. Had a hold on the last 2 on the plane but they had to go.
Now going next wednesday via LA with a stopover in Vegas to see G's Dad and then on to AKL and wellington:raebanana :clap :raebanana
Business class waaahaaaayyy Air NZ £1900 EACH
But we've saved a chunk haggling on shipping etc and been saving for yonks. We are going 'proper like' this once. What the heck.

Oooh very nice Debbie.. have you seen the new Air NZ business class lounge in LA? They are letting BC transit passengers use it now instead of the cardboard box they usually use!

Debs, it all looks good. Let me know how business class is - I'll drool over how other people live! What do you think my chances of an upgrade are with a 2 year old and a 3 year old?? :laugh I think I'll just resign myself to flying cattle class for a few more years! Heck, I'll just be happy to actually have flights booked.
Our house sale is still progressing at snails pace - we've revised travel plans to November now!! Will keep you posted.

Will do, although I think when they see us arriving at Heathrow with our luggage and 'extra's' looking like the Clampitts, we'll be shoved in the cargo hold.
We have a new competition on Wednesday morning, how many people and pieces of luggage can you fit in a Ford Ka. I have informed the Guiness book of records of this record breaking attempt, keep an eye on the national news for weds night.
I've everything crosssed for quick progress on your house sale.

If you want to save a bit of money on flights, have you thought about flying on off peak days. It might not be the best way to spend your holidays, but if you fly on 24/25th Dec or 31st Dec 1st Jan, you'll save a big ammount on the cost of the flights

Hi guy's ,just my cent worth here-
We flew out over the new year period,( jan 2 arrived 4th), and as a family of 5 , i booked hotels / accomadation in the August. We had to pay a bit more as most , if not all the cheaper places were totally full. Around the first week in Jan is when most peeps here take their holidays ,so things are full and services are thinner than usual.
But still a great time to arrive.
