Can these be shipped to NZ without hassle or are they treated like garden tools i.e need special cleaning?

what sort is it? You need to if you have a dyson get jeyes fluid and clean the inside and a new filter yes you have to treat them like garden tools. Great thing with jeyes fluid is it stinks and also put it down on your list from the shippers that you have cleaned it and any other things that have needed it.
Dont forget your step ladder as well if you have one. Also any cane or whiker stuff do the same.

thanks blue but why is a dyson different from say a hoover?

I was thinking of the plastic container that you empty same applies to any vac that has this. If you have one that picks up in disposable bags just clean the inside of it and get new filters and of course new bags.

We bought our dyson over, we removed the filters and washed the drum, wiped down the outsides so there was no trace of dust etc, it was not a problem.

If its a bagged hoover you need to remove the bag and give the insides a clean to get rid of dust. MAF do look at them.

We brought our Dyson, it was listed on the manifest - they didn't even ask to have a look at it.

Ditto Diny - our Dyson was wrapped individually and looked, well, hoover shaped :roll and MAF didn't open it - in fact, MAF didn't ask to see any of our stuff. :)

But you should definitely clean it out, remove the dust and give it a nice Pine'O Fresh whiff about it ;)

This may be a really stupid question, but I assume that you can get the Dyson filters over in NZ?

As well as Dick Smith Electrical, they did check our Dyson too and they were fine with it. we just washed it out normally with water. they were far more interested in the miniscule bit of mud they found in the pocket of Petes golf bag.

Hi we also bought our Dyson, I just cleaned it in hot soapy water, we took out the filters but brought new replacement filters out with us. MAF inspected it, just ripped the packaging open to see if it was clean, and that was it. Trudy

Dyson provide a service for about 40 pounds or so whereby they completely renew the motor and leads, clean the hoses etc. You virtually end up with a new machine. We used the service and had no trouble at this end, our two machines looked brand new.
