Just a reminder for those who do and to inform those that may not know, but the expo season is well and truly on top of us. There are NZ employers and NZIS and no doubt plenty of forum members attending so it is probably well worth making the effort to go to these expo's. For details:

Stevie. You made my day with that comment. "young Timbo". I could get used to that. Strange thing though, I always refer to that lovely city 16 miles up the road as Londinium.
By the way, did you get PR yet????

Yes anyone know of any exhibitors going to Manchester, its too far to go to 'Londinium'
and its on the weekend of my up coming birthday (no comments now!) so we can say were off out for the day without arousing any questions from upset parents.
We went to the York Migrate exhibition but it was AUS&NZ and mostly Agents there, and we didnt use one as its just as easy to diy.
It would be nice if there were representitives from each area, so we can get a feel of which area would suit both us and the boys.
weird how the eldest has followed his dad into similar trades :D
funny friends will be saying now what did you do for your birthday - I went on a fact finding mission for my new life (well they say 'life begins at 40 - I sure hope so :raebanana

Now Kat, you aren't using your noggin are you. :roll What you do is get Mr. Kat to take you for a birthday treat to the Jarvis Picadilly, which is very handy for the chinese restaurants in Madchester, which would just happen to coincide with the NZ expo. :yes
Now, how could anyone deny you a nice little romantic weekend?
Hey Timbo, you're welcome regarding the "young" comment ;) And, didn't I tell you we got PR?? Must have forgotten to mention it....... I'm really enjoying this feeling.
Don't know of any exhibitors yet, best to keep an eye on the website I suppose.
Anyone fancy meeting up at Madchester pm and we'll see what goes.

Hi all,
To find out who will be exhibiting at the expo email info@expo-newzealand.com
You must tell them your profession, they then email you a list of relevant exhibitors.
The emails are processed on NZ time, so they turn up here in the middle of the night. :)

Thank you all for all these lovely links!!
I've never been to an expo, are they worth the effort do you think?
Do you get to meet people who are as keen for us to be in NZ as we are?
All replys gratefully received.

Not been to a big expo, but by all reports, they are fab. Employers there, so take plenty of CV's. NZIS of course, and lots of information, from banking, pensions, removals, pets, all the information you need under one roof.
We are going to the Madchester one, so if you are going we can all meet up somewhere - nice to put faces to the names.

*BEWARE*
Please look into it carefully before using an agency. You CAN do all of this yourself.
My wife and I trawled these expose's North and South for information regarding NZ. We wanted to make sure it was the right thing and the possibilties of help in doing so.
We have found ourselves in NZ a few UK pounds lighter than we needed to due to insecurity.
YOU don't need to be. Use this forum and get your questions answered here instead of paying pounds (or dollars) for a service that does not suffice or to handle everything you can do yourself.
There are companies that offer a service to find you a job. NO! You find the job yourself and they take your money due to your insecurity.
If you are insecure and want someone to hold your hand during this process then fine.
All I am saying is that we paid our money and used this 'service' but have since found out that doing it ourselves would have saved us a lot of money.
Any questions then please PM me before parting with your money, I am happy to oblige as are the rest of this excellent forum.
Finally, though I have not mentioned any company names above, I will for removals, do not bother with P1ckf0rd$. We have had (and still having) a nasty experience with them.

Dave, you shouldn't have to pay to put your info forward into a job agency. The employers pay them for finding the employees don't they? As soon as there is a hint of wanting cash they will see my backside. I am also led to believe that there will be employers present as well. I have never been asked for money in any way. The only people who try this are the emigration specialists, but I didn't need or use those.

StevieD, great if you have PR m8, we didn't and took the risky way of selling up and coming out here.
We were assured of a job placement service which had a money back option (which has been refunded) but to have that service you must have the immigration service 1st which is NOT refundable.
They also aim to help you with the work permit and then aid with PR, we shall see.
Read between the lines and do some snooping on NZ Job search and you should hit the company on your first hit!
Also, this company does not have their fingers in the IT market as much as they'd hoped so I feel as if we were lured under false pretences.
I agree, agencies pay the employer but what this company offer is to get the job maybe before you arrive in NZ or are not that skilled or may even have a language barrier.
I do not want anyone on this forum to part needlesly with their cash when the answers are all here.

We can't make the London one easily, which is much quicker to get to. Are both the shows as good as each other, or does one seem to be better than the other? I guess I'm asking is London better than Manchester, as it's the 'biggest', or is it just more people attending?
That do those think that have gone before?
Thanks,
Emily

We're going to go to both the London and Manchester expos (Saturday)...not sure if that's overkill, but don't want to miss anything! Will give us a week to weigh up the options e.g. different banks etc, then can sign up for things in Manchester.

Silly question just looked at the website and it says tickets are on a first come first served basis, does this mean that we could go up there and not get in.
Is that just for semiars, but you can go to look at exhibitors.
never been to anything like this.
StevieD
13th October 2005, 06:26 AM
I only been to one, I remember that you had to book to go to the seminars, but there seems to be no facility for this so I take it it is going to be different at this one. NZIS is the one that is usually packed out, but they are having a stand there, the biggest appropriately, so maybe they are not having a seminar at this one.
I just want to take as much stuff away with me as possible, got PR so NZIS will only be paid a brief (ish) visit. So if it is first come first served, I guess there will be a little queue of ENZ peeps outside early on!

So you can just turn up and go into the rest.
Waiting to here back who will be there relating to Andy's profession, Sales Manager currently in Office Refurb.
Have you all done NZ style CV's or are you using UK style ones.
Is anyone up for a coffee on the Saturday.

when we went to the York Exhibition which did NZ & AUS they had Tickets for Seminars, you bought them from a separate stand and when you got the entry ticket it was best to get straight to it as they sold out pretty quick.
I cant say that we got much info from it that we had gained ourselves - or from speaking to stand personnel - other than you can eek out the timeframe if you hold off to the time limits to send stuff to them.
Oh and that they dont do Retirement visas - and the exodus of pensioners mumbleing as they left made seats for the younger ones!
we got there early and qued for tickets to get in - and the same for the seminar - we only went to the NZIS one as the rest had sold out
I agree about the agents - we didnt use one and with the help of this site you can save yourself loads of dosh - NZIS etc makes a big dint in the wallet anyhow.

Quite right KatandBob, agents are a waste of money, unless you want to "bend" the rules because things aren't so straightforward in your case. Some friends have used an agent to get them into Oz and the costs are mindblowing. But each to their own. I am fortunate in that I didn't have to go down that route. And totally agree with the hole left in the wallet by NZIS! LOL
Also advises you to bring plenty of CV's on paper and disk. I will be putting some on CD (don't have a floppy drive anymore?!??) as well as paper. What is this NZ style CV format you talked about? Would like to have an idea.
OK. Just received the reminder email. The seminar timetable is posted on the link below: http://expo-newzealand.com/pdfs/nzm-seminar-timetable-05.pdf
Coffee in one of the little lounges sounds good so will obviously post next week sometime to say times etc will be there if anybody interested.
Happy hunting
