Hi,

We have 2 nights in Hong Kong in 8 weeks time...can't wait!

We're staying at the Peninsula Hotel on the Kowloon side. As we only have 2 nights and we arrive in the early evening of the 1st night, I've planned everything that we want to do.

On the first day we will take the ferry to Lantau and visit the Po Lin Monastery to see the 'Giant Budda' and then take a bus to the Tai O Fishing village. From there we can catch another bus to the MTR station and take the train back to the Hotel. We have reservations in 'Felix' restaurant in the evening.

On the 2nd day we will take the ferry over to the peak and take the tram ride up. After that we plan to take a bus to Aberdeen Harbour for a look around before getting back to the hotel mid afternoon for afternoon tea at the hotel (reserved).

We get collected for the airport at 5pm that evening.

We plan to buy an 'Octopus' card when we arrive at the airport, as it's much easier to pay for all your public transport that way.

Phew, I think that's everything we're packing into the 2 days!

Hi Smiler,

Myself & my partner spent some time in Hong Kong a couple of years ago, and it was fantastic. We used the Excelsior Hotel on the Island; really handy for the train (MTR) and close to Time Square.

As for things to do! The place never stops. If you want to see real life on the Island the trams are a great way to get from one end to the other. They are really cheap and offer a great view of life in Hong Kong. They are also good for getting some great photographs, day and night. The Star ferry is also a great way to see the landmarks, and again it's very cheap.

The parks are also really nice if you fancy a break from the chaos. There is one in Kowloon and another on the Island. Also the Peak is usually a must see whilst there. It's pretty cheap on the tram up to the top and offers fantastic views over the city. The views are impressive during the day, and amazing at night.

As for restaurants', we found many fine places to eat, the cheapest tending to be on the Kowloon side. Our favourate was the 'Red Pepper' on the Island...fantastic food. It does get busy though, packed with suits, and it is fairly expensive. Drinking may also prove expensive! Many of the bars' on the Island will charge around £5.00 per pint, so use happy hour or the supermarket! Also, wine is generally expensive with a meal. Still, you only live once and if you go with the flow of a place you usually come away with great memories.

Whatever you choose to do, I hope you have a fantastic time. I hope to be passing through there again in January if all goes well with the NZIS!

Cheers,

Ebeee.

Hi Debs,
I would say that Millimoo's plan is pretty good as you would get to see at lot of Hong Kong, including the contrasts between City and countryside.

As for a place to stay...........depends on your budget, Penisula is very expensive. There is agood Hotel booking service at the Airport on arrival, or check the normal web sites. Public transport is excellent in Hong Kong, so anywhere in CENTRAL, Wanchai, Causeway Bay, TST etc would be fine.

Wow guys thanks for the tips, especially the one about staying on the island.

Milliemoo I am impressed with your plans. :nice1 and would have done something similar given time but as it is We might not have time to plan this bit much, but we can wing it if we need to. Excelsior looks stuuning and we fancy one of those harbour rooms.

Thanks again
