Well I wanted to take a moment and introduce myself. My name is Jonathon and I live in Houston, Texas. My partner and I are going to make the move on 2/13/05. We are both 27 years old so we were able to qualify under the Working Holiday Scheme.
While this scheme will allow us to work and live in NZ for a year we are actually planning to make the move for good. We are really taking a chance selling it all and packing what is left into four suit cases but we can't easily qualify for the skilled migration. We figure since I have worked in IT the last 8 years that if I can get a firm offer everything should work out and we can both get PR before the year ends.
I welcome friends, ideas, and others sharing their experiences as we make our plans to embark on this great new journey.

Hi Jonathon,
Welcome to our board. The IT job market is very strong in NZ just now, if you have skills and 8 years experience, you'll find work no problems.
Where is NZ are you planing to live ? For a good job market I'd suggest one of the three major cities (Akl, Welly, Chch). We live in Akl and think it offers a good quality of life, with easy access to good beaches

Now Jonathon, if you're heading down here to civilisation, you are gonna have to get your dates right.
You see, there is no such date as 2/13/06..... because even if it were a leap year, they still don't actually have a 13th month for the excess.
Ah! A brain wave... you didn't mean 13/2/06 did you??? You know, the 13th of Feb 06?
Seems from what I have gathered here that if you have any IT experience at all, you are a shoo-in for a job.
Good hunting,
Stu.
