I've heard that there are quite a few men only pubs in & around NZ, including the cities, just wondering if anyone know of these?
Not that I want to go in any :laugh
:cheers

It wouldn't surprise me at all Debby, but I don't think they'd advertise as that. I also have read " Hooters ", that famed bar chain is opening up for business also in NZ.

What's "Hooters" I've never heard of them. We live a sheltered life here in the IOM!!!

Hmmm,
" Hooters " is a bar chain that serves beer with large JUGS, if you get my drift. ;) ;)

I cant say we came accross any men only bars, but I believe that the "adult entertainment" business is alive and well in NZ.

Do you mean "men only" pubs as in....
**adopts deep voice**
"did you see the footie last night mate, what a game that was :nice1?"
or as in.....
** weakens wrist a little **
"oooh, look at the muck in here :roll!"
The first has some merit IMHO, the latter gives rise to some second thoughts about our choice of residence.

Just like in the UK there are some "working men clubs" that are male only but they are few. Usualy filled with fat bald men mumbling into their pints. Not so many around as the owners have realised they are serving to a small section of the market share.
Gay bars usually let anyone in regardless of gender or sexual orintation. But do expect to see alot of scantily glad men with some stick on sparkly bits! :laugh
Adult entertainment I guess its a male domintated clientel but never been so wouldn't know.
I did find it funny that massage parlours with 'extras' are legal and actually advertise for ladies to work there!!!!!!!

That's as a result of the recent change in the law to legalise prostitution in NZ.
Good to know that the government doesn't waste all of its time looking after boring stuff like health, education, old age pensions etc, but can also find time to define such things as SOOBs (FYI - Small Owner Operated Brothels (I think) - coming soon to a bungalow near you....)
To get back on topic - I think that male only bars would be illegal in NZ under various bits of sex discrimination legislation. There may be bars where most women might choose not to venture, but that's another thing altogether...

I 'think' men only pubs (in the official sence) are well and truely a thing of the past. I've travelled from Bluff to Reinga over the last 15 years and have never come across such a joint. However - that's not to say they don't exist ....... maybe they're like the old 'speak easy' places - known only to a select few customers.
I would have thought in a country like NZ where PC has gone crazy there would be a few heated debates if a 'men only' pub did exist - who knows eh?

NZ might be very PC, but away from the cities the unreconstructed kiwi males and their attitudes still exists. There's a few times recently where I've thought I had actually walked into the filming of a Speights ad.
Wouldn't surprise me if a lot of pubs in some of the more rural areas were a bit short of female customers.

Talking of PC, my wife advised me that my earlier post was certainly not such. It was intended to be light-hearted and my sincere apologies to anyone to whom it may have caused offence.:o

I am offended that you apologised! (ok, in NZ offense is offence and apologize is apologise...no wait...)
