Just had a call from our power company, and they told us that we qualify for a dividend of $180 which is credited to our power bill. Apparently just by living in the right area of Auckland (you don't get it on the noth shore or out west) , we are shareholders in the Auckland Electricty Consumer Trust. This owns something or other, and we get the a share of the profit.
so despite having moved in to the area only a couple weeks before the dividend date, we get the cash. This works out at almost 2 months free power. And the best part is this happens every year :>
Check out if your entitled here

Is this just another perk of life in Auckland, or do other areas have the same thing ?
