We are now permit residences and our son would like to come over to New Zealand to get a feel for the place. He is 29 years old. Firstly I would like to hear from anyone who has made the move on their own.

Also has anyone arrived in NZ with no return ticket? Is there any problem in doing this?

Any information would help please.

I think that if you have no visa you MUST come with a return ticket.

... or a forwarding ticket. We had forwarding tickets to Australia which we then cancelled.

Couldnt he apply for a working hol visa - i think then he could get away with no return ticket???

I don't know much about anything yet but I have a working holiday Visa and it says I need either a return ticket or proof of funds to purchase one. I am pretty sure I am coming to stay so I am only going to buy a one way ticket and then prove that I have funds to turn around and go the other way if needed.

Perhaps your son should apply for a Working Holiday Visa as I did. It will allow him to stay for up to a year and also possibly avoid the return ticket. The Working Holiday Visa was very easy to apply for. Since I am from the US I was able to do the entire process online and I was given an electronic Visa within 24 hours of applying.

Hope this helps.
