Hi,

We have only been here a bit over a month and still have lots to see and do but does anyone have any suggestions about good day trips around Wellington? We know the options right around the city fairly well but what about if we want to drive for an hour or two?

Thanks!

Chris

Would recommend a trip down to Cape Palliser. It will be about 2 hour drive from Wellington but comes highly recommend. It's the most Southern point in the Wairarapa. Has a fantastic lighthouse and you can picnic with the seals as well. The kids loved it and the scenery was fantastic.

Makara Beach is really lovely as well, on the west coast from Kaori. We managed to go on a lovely clear day and the sea was really calm. The climb up to the fort is fantastic and you may even catch a glimpse of the south island.

Kaitoke Park past Upper Hutt and just before you get to the Rimutakas has been recommended. We're yet to get there yet.

Not sure if you've been up to Kapiti Coast. A really long fantastic beach, great for a really warm day.
