I have been offered a job by a friend as his business in NZ is busy at present and am using the points it carries when i submit my EOI( i am an electrician) but was wondering, i cant get to NZ untill next july, so what if the job falls thru? Am i allowed to find myself another in the meantime or when i arrive-still as an electrician- and just let immigration know, surely they dont care as long as they are getting me as an electrician? :roll

Charlosparky,
Forget using your friend to offer that job offer. All you have to do is make sure everything is squared off with NZQA eg: qaulifications and EWRB. Now you need to sit a test at NZ house this allows you to get your provisional licence which allows PR without a job offer. But without the test you are allowed to apply for WTR. Once over there you will be required to sit another exam which once passed allows you to be registered.
You mention about entering on another job offer but not as an spark? unsure that is allowed. If you are submitting your EOI on the effect of your friend offering that job then you'll have work for him for 3 months.

I'd come over as a sparky with the relevant test, and get the normal work visa, then do what you like once you get here. Long as you aren't a drain on the state and are employed with a work visa I don't think anyone is bothered.

I'm employed on a work permit!! My kids are at the local school, I am paying taxes and I have just bought a house.
EOI just submitted - no complaints so far :nice1

Kim,
Could you please give some more details about this test?
Where is NZ House?
I'm an electrician in Canada and I'm really concerned about the WTR visa that I've been reading about.. If I'm going to sell up everything and re-arrange my life, I want nothing less than PR before I do that.. I was almost ready to give up the idea of moving to NZ because of it so I'd appreciate more details.
Thanks..

HIYA Darren,
My husband is an Electrician ,he sent his qualifications and details to the EWRB in Wellington, they say he can get his provisional licence.
We have got WTR visa's ,When we move out there ,he can get a Job ,get his licence and after 3 months employment we get PR.
feel free to ask anything and I'll try to help ,Its a strange path to go down ,but we got there eventually .

hi carlos sparky
I'm an electrician about to submit my ITA.The paper work i've received is a bit more involved but i'll try to keep it as simple as possible.
with in the skilled migrant category applicants are unable to claim points for their job offer or their qualifications unless they have already obtained registration with the EWRB.
You cannot obtain registration without doing a health and safety course
i did mine at NZ house with nick chandler for £280 chandlerconsulting@xtra.co.nz
find out when the next course is and get on it as it was really usefull.
your employer then sends your details to the EWRB and you apply for a provisional registration.they say it takes about 6 weeks for them to do this.
to lodge you residance application you must get a letter from EWRB stating your qualifications are suitable and that you have passed your health and safety course
To have your application finalised you will need the provisional licence
if you don't do the h& s course you can apply for SKILLED MIGRANT-WORK TO RESIDANCE DEFERRAL
with this you have to go to nz work for 3 months then they will give you PR
THIS is what im doing as i have no job offer yet.
i hope this helps ???

Richie and Michell- you seem to know a bit more - help!! :(
I have a job offer (although may drop it if offered one near whangarei) and have tried to fill in my EOI online, but i am getting no qualification points added as i havent had my quals assesed by the NZQA. Do i need to do this even though they are recognised by the EWRB? Then having read your post i'm wondering if i am going about this the wrong way. My plan was :
1- job offer
2- EOI with about 200 points (its 140 without quals and wondering if thats enough to get outa the pool quickly)
3- return ITA by FEB 2006
4- Recieve PR then go to NZ by july 2006
Can you give me an outline of your alternative plan as it sounds simpler. I am 36 and have my wife and kids coming too. I am I am booked on Nicks next course at NZ house which may be DEC 05
