Hi to all
I've just been shopping and have bought a possum and merino wool top to wear around the house and it wasn't cheap $180 in a sale. I am so cold even with the woodburner burning away fiercely and this is spring. It's amazing the difference I can feel already because I'm wearing the right kind of clothing. It's one of the first things Dave did as well, buying himself a good woollen jumper. You would think they would be cheap here with all the sheep and possums, but not so.
A word of advice before you come out. Buy and bring as much natural fibre clothing as you can. We tend to forget in our centrally heated homes that clothing is important. Most clothes now are man made fibres because they are easier to wash and we don't need to worry indoors and put warm jackets on when we go out. If there is an Edinburgh Woollen Mill (or American equivalent) near you having a sale, buy as much woollen stuff as you can, it does make a difference.
Don't know how you girls from the Philippines will cope - Jes and Annie. You will feel even colder than us people from the UK and cooler parts of the States :?

I believe NZ winter is not that bad, is it? compare to US or Canada winter...
The coldest temp. that I have ever encountered was around - 30º C, and it was quite brutal I must say.

Cold like N. America? I really do hate to say this; but at the moment I am sitting near an open window with my shirt off drinking a cold one.
I am sure that we are in for an eye opener, nearly every other x-mas here( our winter) is spent wearing shorts and golf shirts.
Don't get me wrong there are 16 million people in the greater Los Angeles area. Hack, Cough, Hack.
Oh and guess what they just introduced a utility truck designed to out hog the Hummer on the local roads, I can't wait to see that monster in my rear view mirror.
"hey honey look, O.J finally got rid of that white Bronco."

Hey Sandra
I went to Matalan today and guess what I bought?
A brushed weave thermal vest !! Have put it straight in my NZ cupboard ready to be sent out there.
Thanks for the advice. If anybody else is interested, Matalan have a really good range of thermals: long sleeve vest, short sleeve vest and long johns - all in school ma'am white or bikers moll black, each piece costs 5.00 - half the price of Damart and equally as good.

Agree with Diny, being in the ski industry we have plenty of thermals, much prefer the easy care microfleece tops and other wicking thermals to wool etc. and they are a lot cheaper too.

Matalan's good for JimJams too, in case you may need more clothes to put on before going to bed.

That's just what I'm going to do too, knit some nice warm jumpers. There's a nice little knitting shop in Feilding with a lovely, friendly lady. All my knitting and sewing paraphernalia is with the shipment though, so I'll just have to be patient until it arrives.

You'd be amazed at what you'd find under those bike leathers.
Thermal vests tucked into harvest festival knickers, 70 denier tights with knee socks over them. Oh so very attractive.
(In case you don't know ... harvest festival knickers .........."all is safely gathered in")
