If the GB liners come in cheaper but you prefer the Pickfords service haggle with pickfords.
This is what we did and pickfords matched the cheaper quote.

WOW! the prices have really gone up since April!
Our quote (from essex) for a 20ft was for 3k but after insurance was added it was for around 3.5k

I have a form to fill in for Crown, but have lost the enthusiasum after sorting out the cupboards .........
and I had a quote from "Upakweship" QUOTE: Based on the volume of your effects + the car = 1 x 40' (including Gym equipment & Weights)
container , based on you packing & loading the effects we will load the
vehicle, ship on a door /door service for your effects, the car to be
collected from the port £4850.00.
If you decide only to take your effects 1 x 20' container , same as
above £2950.00

I have had a quote to pack and load, and get to port in Whtn - then I would have to arrange local company to deliver to the door.
£2100 20ft (inc m'bike)
£3200 40ft (inc car & m'bike)

Wow..
£6300 down to £3200 is one hell of a drop, even £4800 is pretty impressive.
I must admit I dont mind packing and loading a lorry and ditto the other end to save a two or three grand, (friends will do that for a beer or two :D) but I guess there is more to it than that !
The rubbish truck can just about get outside of my house so dropping a 40' (or even 20') container off at the end of the drive for a day wouldnt be possible, I would be interested in the small print of how this all works, inventories, MAF, insurance etc
We contacted GB Liners but they never got back with a viewing date so it may be worth giving Whites and these others a ring if they're even cheaper, as apart from the car, most of our stuff is well past its sell by date and doesnt need too much TLC.

Anji, PM me if you need some moral support or other contacts in Nelson, I'll be there myself beginning of December looking at accomodation, schools and jobs etc

I guess that I am lucky as my employer has paid for our stuff to be shipped, but obviously there was a limit. Crown quoted way over for a 20 ft but we went with GB Liners for 3300 which left some cash to go towards insurance and our flights.
I would recommend GB Liners they were very efficient and very helpfull but you have to be quick and make sure anything that you do not want to go into the container is kept well out of their way, if it is not nailed down they will ship it.
We heard from NZ Van Lines this week that our container is due to arrive on the 15th November it left our home on the 29th September, sooner than I had
expected.

We used Pickfords (Salisbury to Chch) and they were rubbish at the UK end.
No end of unnecessary and seemingly gratutitous damage.
Unless you can get them for less than three and sixpence don't risk it.

We used Pickfords,
it was only a part load, but got here really quickly, and the guys in the UK were unbelievable, could'nt do enough, we shipped some large all glass cabinets, not a scratch on anything. They also kindly hid some contraband for us by " accidentally" miss labelling them as bed parts. And the process this end was equally as good.

So did I, but unfortunately I left it until the container was sealed and everything was on its way.:no
The obviously took me for tight, expected no beer money and got their retaliation in first :( .
