I emailed sony with my model of TV to see if it would work in NZ>

Dear Miss Rollinson

Thank you for your recent enquiry.

When taking a television overseas, there are some factors to consider.

First of all it is wise to check which television standard is
applicable in the country you are going to. The UK operates a television
standard of PAL/I ('PAL' for picture, 'I' sound). You may therefore find
that your television is not compatible as generally, television sets
manufactured for use in the United Kingdom are designed to receive the Pal I
broadcast signal only and therefore are unable to tune into other
countries broadcast signals.

Secondly, the transportation of the television can be costly and could
result in damage being caused or necessitate resetting the equipment,
particularly as there may be specific geometry and magnetism issues that
will affect the set. In addition, any spare parts or service manuals
that are required to service your television may be difficult to obtain,
resulting in lengthy and / or costly repairs.

Sony will not authorise, nor become involved in, any modifications that
will change the set specification of a product, for safety reasons.
Please note that we cannot condone any modifications that are
subsequently carried out and if the modification results in a fault developing,
this will invalidate the guarantee.

With this in mind, we strongly suggest that you give full consideration
to the feasibility of taking your television abroad as it is not
something that we would recommend.

Well at least they replied to you......I am still waiting!! Oh and this will make you laugh....... I sent Sony the email about a month ago and then got a questionaire last week about the service I got from my emailed enquiry....well you can guess what my answers were!!!!.......but didn't work still havn't had an answer!!!!

I also emailed 'Rangemaster' in UK & NZ (with the very vague hope that they would say I could use my cooker!) on Sunday, guess who answered 1st?

You guessed it NZ, I had a message asking a couple of extra questions on Monday and got a full reply on Tuesday...not heard from the UK yet !!!!

Sorry for changing the topic slightly....we are going to take our TV and buy a NZ video recorder & hope for the best!!!

Hi Gwen

Thank you for contacting Sony NZ.

Due to the differences in broadcast frequencies, signal formats and magnetic polarisation, the TV will 'most likely' not work properly in New Zealand.

We at Sony do not recommend transporting TV units from region to region, especially from the northern to southern hemisphere.

I hope this helps resolve your query. If not, or more information is required, please contact us on 0800 SONY NZ (0800 766 969).

Kind regards,
