Blast!!!!!
Last night on the news they did an article about how loads of brits are leaving for New Zealand. For the safety and the idealic lifestyle and less people.

No!!!! I was shouting, don't tell everyone or it won't stay like it.

They filmed a couple who lived in a superb place by a lake under snow capped mountains. All looked great until the guy opened his mouth and kept saying where else would ONE live if ONE had the chance to move ONEself to a better place. ugh. hopefully he'll put people off the idea.

I agree - I kept thinking 'No, don't tell everyone, they'll all want to come!'

Made me laugh! Why assume that anyone is from anywhere?

I went to the pool shop yesterday (to find out how to turn my pool from yukky green to crytal clear water), and the guy (lovely chap) assumed that we would be bored within a few months of "country living".

Only ive lived in the country all my life! Apperently its assumed that anyone moving here from britain - especailly those buying "lifestyle" blocks, are idiots who havent got a clue what they are letting themselves in for. And of course, all of us are "townies" seeking a better life in the "country".

I also happen to sound quite "English" when I speak - especilaly on the phone apparently. Ive certainly never had a "plum in my gob" but I do have a nice speaking voice (so Im told anyway). Does that make me a toff?

Just a thought.

You beat me too it Avalon :laugh - I just get bored of attitudes like that :roll , should we pop some straw in the corner of our mouths and mumble "arrrr" from time to time, is that a better "look" for someone living in the country??

We've given city living a good go, one year (as much as you can call it city-living in Chch!) and we have decided that we don't like it. We're used to being in the countryside, quite isolated, and are going back to that, so once my brother leaves at Xmas we're off house hunting again. :raebanana Can't wait.....

1 Year - boy you did well! I lasted 9 months - 3 of which I hardly slept at all in and ended up quite ill.

However- 3 weeks of sitting staring at the hills and mountains - im a new woman (though balancing these blasted pool chemicals could have me going round the twist!).

You're right. Shouldn't assume anything. I should know about "city-types" as I've worked with enough of them and was one myself for 17 years! It takes all sorts.

Sorry for any offence.

No offence taken - but thanks for the thought anyway :nice1

As someone who has had no end of assumptions made about me (some of them even quite pleasant) - I try to be very careful not to make them about others. However - we are all human - so it doesnt always work out that way.
