Hi all,
Yep I know there are loads of threads with interview stuff on them, I've spent the last few days going through some of them slowly, but can someone please reply to this thread and calm my nerves a bit.
We don't even have a date for the interview yet but I just feel that this is the bit where I can muck up all our family dreams. Im the main applicant so I will have to do the interview but it is my OH who is currently in work in the UK. I've not worked for 4 yrs but intend to once the kids are settled in NZ.
Is there anyone who has recently had an interview and had a possitive out- come who;
1) has no job lined up,
2) Has no family or friends in NZ, (all our NZ friends are in the UK),
3) Has never visited NZ ,
4) Has no specific area of NZ planned for there move. We have planned everything on Auckland thinking it was the most expensive location and if we can manage there we can do it anywhere. We will move to where ever the work is.
Just re-read the above and we don't sound like great prospects do we. Please help the stress is starting to show.

I had an interview just a couple of days ago even though my OH has a job in Auckland. I had to have the interview becasue I was the main applicant.
The truth of the matter being that I have no real intention of working other than part time and my main concern will be to sort out OH, house and children.
The case officer asked me what I intended to do in NZ, what would happen if I didn't find work and had I researched employers. She also asked me if we had visited and what would I do if I couldn't find work.
She was very pleasant and even thought I kept adding that it was my OH who would be the breadwinner she was fine with it all. I told her that we had a realistic expectation and knew that NZ was not the promised land etc. PR granted and passports back (just one day before OH had to fly out!).
Don't panic - it will all be fine - interview lasted about 15 minutes.

Thanks Lisa,
Did you say to NZIS that you only intent to work part time if at all? If you don't mind me asking, why were you the applicant and not your OH if he has the job? I'm the applicant because my qualifications were recognised and I have a degree which made the application streight forward. My OH has loads of experience but would have had to go through the NZQA for his qualifications. We are both on the skills shortage list.
My stress, Im sure, is due to the fact that Im not happy about being less than 100% open with NZIS but am worried that if I tell them I only want to return to work part time and see my role in the immediate future as settleing my OH, kids, sorting school and home they won't let us in. After all they are giving me the points because I have a skill they want me to use.
I would love for my OH to secure a job, that would give us a possitive to put to NZIS but we can't leave untill the house sells and he is unhappy, understandably, to tell future empolyers that he can't start work until ????
He is IT so I hope the job won't take long to secure once we are in country, we just have to get there.
Thanks again for your possitive words. Expo soon so we will see what that brings.

The case officer asked me what I intended to do in NZ, what would happen if I didn't find work and had I researched employers. She also asked me if we had visited and what would I do if I couldn't find work.
I found this too. I researched loads of employers in Christchurch, signed on to job email notifications etc, so then could quote the number of new jobs posted per week, which sites I used etc.
The case officer also wanted to know why I wanted to emigrate, where I had chosen to go, and why I had chosen that area. She also asked how I intended to settle into a different culture, what my preconceptions were etc.
I was worried about the interview too, thinking I might bring down all our dreams with 15 mins of babble! Don't worry about it though, they're not expecting answers off pat, they just want to see that you have thought carefully about your choices.
As for your list - 1, 2 and 3, we were the same, and 4, well we chose Christchurch. Chin up!

Debbie,
Try not to stress too much.
And answering your questions.
Yes, to all the above.
Never been there
Have no family out there, but do have friends
Have no job to start over there
And really, deep down, we have an idea where we'd like to settle but it's not written in stone until we've had a good mooch around.
Oh. and yes. NZIS granted PR on my application knowing all this. Good eh !!! :D

Ditto all of the above! Don't panic, it is only a chat - they do have standard questions but as long as you are sensible and be open with them, you will be fine. They are only concerned that you have done your homework and not just rushing in. If you have any concerns or questions then pm me.
Cheers and good luck
Steve
