Hi, just to pass on… Having just returned from NZ having secured permanent employment, I’d like to flag up an IT recruitment agency that helped me immensely.

www.sabrenz.co.nz

Wayne McLaughlin and Mike Wood were really helpful and I couldn’t recommend them highly enough. The site also has a ‘jobs’ site built in.

I sought there agreement to recommend them on the forums. They replied:

“We would be more than happy for you to refer us to others. It's a pleasure working with people who are committed to finding employment.”

Tenille Bennett & Ben Pearce were my contacts there (Wellington).

Tell them Dave sent you! :nice1

I have heard that theres a lot of IT jobs. Would it be easy for me to get a job with just my experience or would i need paper qualifications?

Basically I have 6 years experience. Ran my own company for the last year too but i have never sat down and taken a test

As always it depends on a lot of things, but principally:

The exact skills you're offering (what's big in the US or the City of London may not be in demand in NZ)

Where you want to work (Auckland is place for highest number of IT jobs, then Wellington, then Christchurch (which is a very poor third in volume terms). You hardly ever see IT jobs advertised in Queenstown).

If you're skills are in demand and there are lots of jobs in the location you want to work in then employers probably won't be too hung up on what pieces of paper you've managed to acquire. If, on the other hand, many people have your skills and there aren't many jobs in your locale then the picture is likely to be significantly different.

Thanks George. I have a plan for a job at the moment but i am planning on getting my CV around IT recruiters as a backup. I understand I would probably have to move to a city for these jobs though :(

Hello,

I am working in the IT industry for about 8 years:
3 years as a systems analyst
5 years as a product / project manager

1. How difficult do you think it would be to find a job as a product / project manager in NZ? (I don't mind the city, though I heard Auckland has more positions in IT, then Wellington).
2. What salary should I expect? (I read the salary surverys in different sites, but I would be happy to get a more accurate / real information)
3. Will I be able to secure a job position before arriving NZ?

Thanks in advance
