Tried posting this in another thread, but so far no responses from anybody else who has submitted in August, so I thought I'd try again.

"Just wanted to find out if anyone who submitted their application in August, has had an interview date yet?

We submitted ours on 17th August, (135 points - no job offer), and I'm thinking that it won't be long until we get contacted.

Just wanted to know where we were in the queue!"

Cheers

We put ours in towards the end of August (like you, no job offer). I've got a hunch that we'll be contacted for interview about mid-October. If I'm right, your interview should be happening any minute now

Hiya Tia and Steve!

We submitted our ITA on 18th July, had interview on 12th September, e-mail confirming PR in principle on 15th, letter arrived on 17th!
So if you look at it, approx 6 weeks to interview from submission date, assuming it works to the same timescales.

Good luck

Steve

Hi Tia
Sorry missed your post first time around. We summitted 8th Sept and Im was told by the agent managing it to expect an interview call second half of Oct so about 6weeks as steve said.
All the best, hope your nerves are hanging on in there, Im a mess already. Keep us posted with intervieww details as I know I should be about 2/3 weeks after you and about a week after Cardiff.
Hi Cardiff, I finally got the PM to work, thanks loads.

We submitted our application a few weeks ago (Mid Sept), and got a letter from NZIS this last week. The letter read that we would have a case worker assigned in about 3 months. Presumably we'd get an interview after that. We also have no job offers. The delay isn't too bad for us, because we're not looking to go until spring 2006. I hear tell that if you do get a job offer, they can hurry you along faster.

Wow, this is my first post. I have been reading post for the last 3 weeks.(The day we put the Application in the mail!) My husband aka "Walter" has been reading and posting since January.
It appears that we are on exactly the same timeline as Selchie, just off by days.
This is so exciting !! We are hoping that our schedule works out so that we could make our move in the summer of 2006. Hearing that interviews are taking place in 6 weeks is a bit scarey to me. My hubby is on a term postion with his employer and his term ends May 30, 2006.
We have no job offers either, maybe it will take longer for us. We got the same letter saying it would be 3 months to get a case worker.
We are in Arizona, I'm also interested in chatting with folks from US about plans they are making to "make the move."

It's not just a dream anymore....it really happening!!

Looks like we might be the next in August, on this site, for an interview, then. (Maybe everyone else was on holiday). Very exciting!

I'll let you all know as soon as we get an interview date, so that you can get an idea of when yours might be. (Especially Cardiff Irons, who sounds like, he won't be long after)

Cheers

Just thought you'd like to know, OH got a message on his work voicemail today, asking him to arrange an interview. And just so we don't keep all you others waiting he's arranged it for Friday morning. Quite chuffed as it will be just in time for the Expo.

For all those trying to work out their timings, ours was 8 weeks and 1day, from the day we handed it in to London.

Hurrah!

Congrats!

How long was it before you were assigned a Case Office after submitting the ITA? And how long after that was th einterview?

Tia Maria
13th October 2005, 10:26 PM
We were assigned our case officer today. In other words the first we heard from her, was when she phoned to arrange the interview. She let us choose a convenient time for the interview, and as we wanted to get it over and done with we chose tomorrow.

I'm not sure if others have managed to contact their case officers before this, but ours is a reasonably straight forward case, so we had no need to.

Right, I'm off to study The Treaty of Waitangi again.......;)

Yes, because they're bound to ask you LOADS of questions about the Treaty of Waitangi, aren't they? (still, we all read up on it just in case).

Seriously, that's great news, Tia Maria. Let us know how the interview goes - it's all very exciting and nerve wracking at the same time, isn't it? Good luck!!

Hi Guys,
My OH - Bob or rob as he prefers to be called! said the other night that I am becoming vastley more knowledgeable than him on NZ (thanks to this site :nice1 )
and that he needs to "gen up" on things that he needs to know so that when the interview comes along he has all the correct responses.

I know that I saw a list of questions once but cant find the link.

Hopefully, Tia Maria and Cardiff Irons - as you will be about to get to this point, you may be able to help.

He is at work most of the time so has left me to do the research so far. So I look forward to your replys so I can set him some research :laugh

:cheers Kat

Hi Kat,
Your household sounds a bit like ours! In preparation for Steve's interview, I took the liberty of cutting and pasting from various threads on this forum. Below is a list of various people's tips on likely questions. Thanks to all of you!
Gil

Good opening reminder

Most people, probably everyone, seem to get asked roughly the same things, and the consensus is that the interview is both pretty friendly and is not designed to catch you out. It's really to make sure you have a realistic idea of what to expect from NZ and to see if you care enough about moving there to have done some good research, and/or visited NZ

Questions

Here are some questions I got from previous posts-
1. why nz?
2. what would you do as soon as you arrive in NZ?
3. what is your plan?
4. do you have any relatives/friends?
5. What kind of media did you use for research about NZ?
6. What will you do if you don't get a job as quickly as you would have hoped?

Other comments and questions

· have to add that other than being confident and adding in anything that makes it sound as though you have put a lot of time and effort into researching NZ and what you are going to do there, then you have listed pretty much all the questions I was asked.

· stuff about what I'd done to look for employment so far, support when we get to NZ, what I'd do if I came across any obstacles, what I thought about the impact of migrants on the socio-economic balance of New Zealand and the wider South West Pacific basin (I just made the last one up...sorry).

· We were asked what sort of support we would have in our new country (did we know anyone?) NO!
How much money did we think we needed to make a good living in NZ
How long did we think it would take to find work

Mainly how do you plan to make friends
How do you intend to find work
What will your Partner do for a living.
What steps will you make to find work and friends.
What if you do not find work in the area that you have chosen to live.
How will you support yourselves
Where will you live.
When do you want to go
Do you know people over there
What have you heard about NZ
Has anyone given you any advice about moving to NZ
Do you have support from your family.
They def ask you how you will overcome barriers that you encounter
Schools
Hobbies
Those are the ones I remember him saying They ask you loads! They ask if you have any questions We wrote notes about where we wanted to live/work/wages/property/if we have visited etc/ financial situation/why we wanted to go /we also had a copy of our cover letter etc so we were ready!

What have you done to research the NZ job market in your field?
Same question about my husband.
(When I mentioned businesses and recruitment agencies I'd spoken with, he asked what kind of response I had gotten from those places.)
What do you think will be the biggest barriers to finding a job?
What will you do if you can't find a job in your field?
How much do you think the two of you will need to make? (He wanted a $ amount)
What have you done to research the cost of living and housing prices?
(He also asked if we went to any open houses when we were in NZ)
What have you done to determine where you would like to live?
What are your housing plans when you first arrive?
Do you know anyone in New Zealand?
(I know someone so he asked how often I speak with that person and what kind of support we could expect.)

This is a comment on the catch-22 of immigrant workers (i.e. you have no NZ experience):

Go for a voluntary work without pay and this will be considered as NZ experience.
I remember my first week of arriving here, a recruitment agency offered me the opportunity to work for them without salary except getting the commissions for successful placement of jobs. In fact, it is a golden opportunity to get NZ experience, however, my circumstances at that time could not allow me to except this offer.

Gil,
What a marvel, thanks loads for that.

My ITA was recieved and logged 8th Sept so am I right in thinking that in theroy Im about 10 days after you, (as long as my case officer not on a go slow).

Yep, I'll be at the expo, Ill be the neurotic (sp) woman trying to impress future employers whilst managing to entertain and semi control a wayward 2 yr old and a board 4 yr old!
O' what fun.

Good luck with the interview and so considerate of you to get it over and done with for us. :D

Welcome Cricketlover too. Look forward to hearing about your journey to NZ.

Gil, good post, they are the sort of questions Gary got asked, from recent memory ( but not all of them thankfully). I think the standard ones are where, why, what if?

Katandbob, yeh set Rob some NZIS homework, distances from Auckland to Palmerston North, highest point on the south island, where was the premier of 'the world's fastest indian' this week. Should take his brain cells into overdrive......:laugh

I feel a devil day coming on :p

Hello Everyone,

Just a quick update, OH had his interview on Friday, and was informed, 9.30am Monday that he had PR, (very quick!). Obviously we're overjoyed, but we're in the usual position of waiting for exchange of contracts, before we can start booking flights etc.

Those of you still waiting, thought you'd might like some interview details. Gil's excellent post highlights all the questions you could be asked and we prepared for all of these.

The interview was surprisingly quick - 15 mins - and was very job orientated. So he was asked all the job questions. Also asked about family & friends in NZ, where do you plan to live, schools, accommodation questions and when we plan to go.

He was not asked: any questions about finance, cost of living, how you plan to make friends, hobbies & NZ lifestyle questions.

He said they were mainly interested in job issues, probably because he doesn't have one. Also it was all very informal. He said he forgot to mention loads of stuff, so not the best interview in the world, but still got PR. So all those who are worrying, there is obviously room for mucking it up a bit.

The only thing that he said he wasn't prepared for was at the end, she asked if he wanted to add anything to support his application. He said no, as he couldn't think of anything at the time. Thought of loads of things after though!

Anyway Good Luck to all those waiting
