This has got to be one of my silliest posts so far. I have an alergy to perfumes, which triggers asthma and hay fever type reactions in me. In the UK I was OK if I stuck to the same washing liquid Ariel and fabric conditioner. But now I do not know where to start. So far I have tried about 5 types and have sneezed with all of them, Persil is the absolute worse. Does anyone have any suggestions as to an alternative to Ariel liquid, which will have the same washing power and not make me sneeze. Luckly the first fabric conditioner I tried here, has no perfume.

Hi Nicola,
Have you tried Ecover washing liquid (http://www.ecover.com/english/index.htm)? It should have less of the harmful chemicals that may be causing your allergic reactions. You will also be helping the environment. *:)
In New Zealand you can get it from Ceres (http://www.ceres.co.nz/).
Hope this helps.
Rgds.,
Nick.

I am afraid that it is not the chemicals that cause the problem but the added perfume and I have tried ecover in the past and it did annoy my perfume allergy.

not thought about washing products, my husband has excema and we have to use non bio powders, Fairy and Surcare. Are these available over there.
if there is anything like Surcare you might be OK with it as it is for sensitive skin and I don't think it is perfumed.

Question along these lines, what cost is washing powder? I am considering stocking up on a few huge buckets of powder from Costco before we leave.
Oh how PR makes you think of these things.....

You can only get powder or liquid, and if you are bringing you own front loader, you are pretty much stuck with Persil, at between $8 & 9 a box (not a big box either, a bit bigger than the one you would get 48 tablets in) Cant remember the weight, as I have run out.....
Nicola, have you tried the liquid Am-O-Lin sensitive? I have just bought it to wash all the baby stuff in?

I have been using 'Pams' Heavy Duty 'Brave' liquid stuff, I have a front loader that I bought here in NZ (Whirlpool sell here I discovered!) but have to be very very careful about what I use in in lest we have a bubble flood (It happened once and was NOT pretty!)
I'm not sure if it's perfumed though. I use only a tiny bit in each wash so it works out pretty economical.
