Christchurch and Wellington. Hotels, B&B's, whatever, as long as it's comfortable and reasonably priced (and close to the airports). My fiance and I will be visiting for 2 weeks in early November, so any help is appreciated.

try having a look at Backpackers, the biggest backpacker organisation in NZ is the BBH. Generally they are friendly easygoing places with helpful staff (we know, we run one).

I was going to recommend staying at a backpackers.

We have stayed in various ones around the S Island and always found them to be good value.

You don't need to stay in one of the hostel rooms with all the kids doing their OE, they all have twin or double rooms with ensuite.

Its great as they have a kitchen for use so that cuts down on having to eat out all the time.

Web address: there are two web sites for the same company - they kind of point and refer to each other
