Looking at renting out house, and may have to leave a
washing machine and dishwasher there.

Should I buy replacement in UK or NZ, how much is the price difference?

Can't find the thread that gave links before.

Thanks

I had a thread asking opinion on whether people shipped their things:

It seems white goods in NZ were expensive and there wasn't the range that we have in the UK.

Other option would be to check out trademe for second hand things?

Just found a thread from here via google:

If you have room in the container then buy in the UK.

The majority of washing machines on sale in NZ are top loaders (you know....like back in the 1970's?) and they just rip your clothes to pieces.

Front loaders are really expensive. Our Bosch cost around $1350. Don't be tempted to by a Fisher & Pykel (NZ Made) they breakdown, are noisey and expensive to run.

Is this a top range bosch? or the type that costs £250 in the UK?

what if your not taking much over - is it worth paying the extra space, or would it calculate itself out?

BUY IN THE UK and make room (some how) for them in your container.

white goods are expensive and there is limited choice here.

A couple of white good sites so you can compare... suppose it depends on the specifications of what you want.

Had a chat to my washing machine repair man, who also sells new and 2nd hand (refurb'd).

He said don't buy here dont' take but get there and buy Fisher and Pykl....
He says they are fantastic.

Plan is to take what we have, if necessary rent some for the house rental, and gradually replace what we have in NZ as they breakdown.

Think that right.

thanks for the help.

We bought a whirlpool front loader from LV Martin and it was delivered without the transit bits in place.

After 2 washes the thing started jumping around the room (no, it wasn't an earthquake).

Now, I am quite a resourceful type of guy and have replaced drums, bearings etc on UK washing machines so I had no doubt about taking a nosey.

As the transit bolts were missing it broke the drum attachments from the shock absorbers (dampers as it were).

In a washing machine you have springs that hold it in position and dampers that steady the drum.

We called them and it was fixed the next day.

We had a right of getting a new machine but SHE who must be obeyed was happy with the result.

Personally I think we were sold a returned washing machine and was a managers 'special' offer. They do not appear to adhere to any form of consumers law in NZ so maybe the better the devil you know.

If you do buy in the UK, test it first. If it breaks in NZ, can they come out and fix it?
