I'm wondering what I will have to document if/when we finally get an ITA. For example, OH is the primary, so none of my work experience counts (only my degree). Will I still have to show letters from my former employers? Or just my official university transcript?
What documents are needed for the primary applicant? I assume some sort of evidence of each year of work history that he is claiming? So pay stubs? And/or letters from employers stating duties, salary and hours worked? I read that somewhere, but I can't seem to remember where.
I know about the medicals and the FBI checks. It's all those other things that I would like to start gathering now if I can.
Thanks all.

We had letters from all hubbys employers saying how long he had worked there what his job title had been and an outline of duties, just to prove length of service and skills used. along with all his degree/qualification certificates. I think if you cant get letters from employers then payslips have been used by some other folks.
for me as second applicant just had to include my degree certs as we had claimed points for them, medical and police certs.
Other things we put in was our marriage licence, and a couple of holiday pics, from different years.
We did put a covering letter in as well, but hubby handled most of it and I cant remember what he said... I think it was pretty brief, heres our application, hope its OK, call us if you need anything, that kind of thing.
Oh, and then you need to photocopy it all.....
There was loads of it, had to get a wheelbarrow to take it to the post office :nice1 :laugh
Oh and dont put it in plastic folders, they dont like that, makes their tidy piles slide off their desks...., if I remember right we paperclipped the photocopies to the originals and then put a big elastic band round to hold it all together.

Good question, I would like to get a jump on mine as well. Since I was a stupid kid throughout most of my former employment I kept virtually nothing. 2 of the places I used to work bascially have changed ownership so much, or do not exist. How can I prove those years? I wonder if I can reorder old tax returns from the IRS as proof.... Luckily the last 5 years I have been self employed so that should be easy enough.

Well, I just found out the answer to my own question. 3 years prior only from the IRS. Yikes.

Ours had:
My Degree Certificate
Letter from my employer stating start date on company headed notepaper
Latest Pay Slip to show I still worked there (I've only worked for one employer since leaving University 10 years ago)
Birth Certificates for each of us
Marriage Certificate
Joint Bank Account statement from this month and 12 months ago as proof of living together
Police Checks
Medicals in a sealed envelope
Both passports
I photocopied everything (Except the Medicals) and took them into NZ house myself - they stamped each photocopy and returned the original documents to me.
I just hope I didn;t miss anything!

We have the same problem, one employer has gone out of business and I don't have any of the paystubs. So we are just writing that one off, and will not claim that time against his years worked. Bummer.

PLease help !
We want to submit our ITA later this month - meds booked for 19th and Police checks have just arrived BUT my quals are still with NZQA and my marriage cert. I have copies certified by local Headteacher - is this acceptable or should I have got them certified by a lawyer ? As my assesment is likely to be many more weeks as I am waiting for my uni transcripts to come to me before they can even begin processing I can't see me getting back the originals - we REALLY want to submit this side of XMas !!! Help - does anyone know who can / cannot certify documents ? And Helen - who is submitting hers without her teacher registration - what copies have you got ?
I'm getting very stressed - I'm relying on you lot out there to save my sanity and help us on our way to a better world,
Tracey

hi tee, you can get a certified copy for less than getting a lawyer to sign a copy - try this as we did and they came ASAP - this is the official government site www.gro.gov.uk
cheers

Hi Tracey,
Have spent the weekend trying to sort out my ITA, it's not too bad! The only documents I have had to have certified for the ITA are my degree certificate, birth certificate and passport. I have had these certified by a lawyer (a friend! so did not have to pay! Hurray!) In the Guide it says certified copies has to be stamped or endorsed by a person who is authorised by law (e.g. JP, notary Public, lawyer or court official).
It is a tad confusing as the certified copies of my NZQA assessment and qualifications sent to the NZ Teachers Council were signed by my Head teacher. But, for the ITA, on who can certify, it is different! I am sending the originals: NZQA report; work references; medical; police certificate.(but have photocopied them for me - just in case)
I will be sending my ITA this week, but without teachers registration. If we don't our medicals will be running out and I will lose 5 points as it is the big 30 birthday next week!!!! I feel bad that it is the big 30 anyway, never mind losing valuable immigration points - very unjust!!
Hope this is of some help. Has anybody got any advice about what to put in the covering letter?

Sorry for butting in here Serene, but on the covering letter that you got with your ITA, does it ask you for proof of sufficient funds?
The reason I ask is that ours didn't so therefor we never mentioned money in our covering letter to them. At the time of the telephone interview they did ask how much money we were likely to take to NZ and later we were granted unconditional PR.
I would have thought that if they need to know if you have sufficient funds that they would indicate to you how much those funds are, but hey, I'm well known for my blonde moments so I'll stand corrected.
Good luck with your application,
Julie

We weren't asked to prove how much funds we had - and anyway - who keeps a load of money in a normal bank ccount?? We used our 'everyday' account to prove the living together bit.
Anyone who is self employed they will require up to date accounts for the number of years you are claiming, and we also had to get, as an additional item (after they received our ITA they sent the request - so may be worth putting in anyway!) a letter from our accountant to clarify the type of work undertaken during the self employment.
