Arrived into NZ only seven days ago  . Now in Palmerston North. Just had my first NZ earthquake :eek . It was not a big one and lasted only for 3-4 seconds. I was told they have 200 quakes a year. I just wonder how the remaining 199 would be!

Hi appy

Welcome to the forum.

Yet another expat in PN. It seems a very popular place. Dave & Sandra (from this forum) arrived there just over a week ago (well Sandra did - Daves been there a while). There's quite a number of us heading that way over the next few weeks/months.

We'll be there around Christmas/New Year ... my inlaws are Palmy people - lived in Ruahine Street. They live in Marton now though.

Anyway - earthquakes !! They're great aren't they :no

Hold on tight and enjoy the ride.

Hi Happy

I didn't feel anything - when was it??? Shucks missed my first earthquake.

Where are you in PN? I've been in Feilding for nearly 2 weeks now and settling in slowly but surely. I've had 2 visits to the chiropractor already :eek . After the stresses and strains of selling up a house in the UK my back has just about given up on me. I've bought a Rav 4 which is brilliant for me to get in and out of - not like hubby's MR2, which is a real struggle.

We're hoping to have a get together when everybody that's heading this way finally makes it. Maybe a New Year's Eve barbie on one of the beaches, if it's allowed. I visited Himitangi and Foxton beaches at the weekend. Not huge beaches, and loads of trees and wood washed up on the shore. Maybe it's the wrong season but there didn't seem to be much in the way of facilities, but it was a nice day and the sun was shining so it was quite pleasant having a short stroll on the beach.

Let me know what you're up to - Sandra

My kids favourite place is Foxton Beach. Not many facilities (but nice cafe bar by the police station). They like to just get on the beach and run. All that driftwood is amazing eh.

We were there in April and it was pretty wild. The 30mph speed sign on the beach makes me laugh ........ why????

Is there a thread for a PN New Year's Bash? It would be great to get something sorted and we'd all have something to look forward to :yes

It's, errr, almost central so good place for us all to hook up....

:nice1

And Karl can work his barbie magic! (As in cooking, not in doll!)
