to dial up. Hah!! Got yah!!

Well here we are, what a week (again)

Have moved into fab apartment today, sitting on the floor and sleeping on it tonight too. Have little foam cushions but a sore bum! But glad to be out of that corporate bland flat but it was a godsend for the 1st week. Too noisy in the city though, didn't help my 3.00 am wake ups at all but has been useful to be up to call the UK and talk to our Mums. I had ordered flowers for both of them before we left, to be delivered yesterday, floods of tears on the phone from both and I thought they would be happy flowers????

If you want to have a look at our new pad. 2 x wetroom type bathroom, spa pool, huge lounge, great kitchen, 3 bedroom, huge garage and workshop under house, massive deck and the most amazing views and sun. Haggled a bit on the rent (needed to) but after looking at loads we still kept coming back to this one. Nice residential street, close to city 10 mins or so for G to blast in on the bike when they come. The bus also goes in to the city.

G starts work tomorrow and we are so glad we have had this week together. As soon as we had confirmation of moving in, we went shopping. G said he felt like a lotto winner and I said he has never done so much shopping in his life!:nice1

Got the household basics from the warehouse and sofa and bedroom stuff (Radfords sale yippee) comes tomorrow, mattress later in week and now waiting for our container due mid november Arghhhh. It's like camping.

Got a bargain HUGE TV but no stereo yet so will have to sing a lot for 6 weeks. No washing machine hey ho, need to find a laundrette or see if I can do the smalls in the dishwasher. :laugh

Have just lit a fire in the woodburner to cosy the place up as it has been empty for a couple of weeks. Cooking our first dinner tonight after going to Countdown, it's like being newly weds. Gary says I'm back to smiling again. Good.

Need to put label on G as he keeps getting lost. Yes thats him who moans about my lack of map reading skill. We'd be fine if we lived in Seatoun as thats where he keeps driving to, god knows why.

Thanks for all your pms and will reply and ring you asap.

Nice pad.

Living with minimal furniture can be quite good fun for a few weeks, but you will think its xmas when you get your container!

You could rent a washing machine, from DTR, http://www.dtr.co.nz/index.cfm/Locations/Wellington

They do month to month rental, and will collect it as soon as you dont need it anymore, about $10-12 a week, so may be cheaper and easier than a launderette.

Sounds like you are settling in fine, hope G has a good first day at work tomorrow, it will be like going back the first day at school all over again!

You will sleep beyond 3am soon, took me about 10 days or so.

The getting lost thing will get better, although the classic happened today, turn right says hubby, so I turn left, quite happily (blaming pregnant brain for that one:o ), did not even realise I had done wrong either, ooops.

How did you find the rental experience through Trade-me? Did you rent through a company, or was it a private landlord? If it was the latter, do you still have the safety of bond, contract etc?

We will be looking in Auckland in the New Year, and have seen several nice rentals on Trade-Me, but normally they are private, and we weren't sure how safe an option this was in terms of getting things fixed and maintained. We've only ever rented through estate agents in the UK, where private rentals aren't as common. Were most of the properties you looked at private or through agents? Did you have to make quick decisions, or did properties hang around?

Sorry for soooo many questions, but I do think that finding the right place to live, can make such a big difference on how easy you find, the initial settling in period. I mean life has just got to seem better when you can have a glass of wine in you're very own hot tub (you lucky things!).

Wow, dial-up, eh? How do you cope? What speed have you got??

Anyway, pad looks fab. It all sounds very exciting and I'm glad you're feeling a bit happier - it must make all the difference having a place to call home for now. Hope it goes ok next week, coping on your own. You probably feel a bit like I felt when Craig had to go back to work after his paternity leave and I had to cope alone with a baby!

Let us know how you get on next week and hope everything keeps getting better and better!

Well here I am 4.30AM yes AM, and this time I'm up because the new boy sent the alarm on his watch for 2.45 instead of 6.45. Can I be prosecuted for murder if I've only been in the country for 6 1/2 days??

Kate, I certainly can't imagine doing this all with a baby too but it must have felt weird when Craig went back to work because in a short while you get used to having someone around. Haven't a clue what speed we have except that the tin can hanging off the balcony has a long piece of string attached as far as the city. No it doesn't seem slow at all. :nice1 Have ordered BB online and hope it comes soon.

Tia, I found trade me was good for searching and doing drive bys if the address was given, but often private owners didn't get back to us. One girl phoned today and I left a mesage last monday night! Nearly a week. :uhoh Which is a long time in stress terms. Maybe coincidence but all the ones we looked at were through agents then. All very helpful though.

I've found properties that are still available when we arrived and had been looking at them on Trade me for a month or so from the UK. We may have been lucky here in that this one had just become vacant last week.

We have always rented through agents in UK but dealt with the landlords after that for maintenance etc, so don't know how private landlords work here really. Some of the private landlords on TM don't have any feedback or trades.

I have seen that a lot of the older properties ( villa type houses ) are in good condition but some 50.60.70's style houses were tired and unloved (and damp and cold). We saw a great 1900's cottage on the beach but it was very cold and dark being at the bottom of a cliff and getting no sun after about midday. It was very pretty but we decided we couldn't live in the dark.

Sal, thanks for the DTR link I'm gonna call as soon as they open. I've never really wanted to do the washing so badly. ;)

Deborah

Jetlag must be pretty bad if you're up at this time! Still, think of all you will achieve today. Are you normally asleep by 7pm at the moment? Have a nice day!
