Now calm down all you women out there who saw this thread and thought, jeeze i must take a look at this!! Now its not aimed at women really unless you are of the fishing variety.

The question i have is for all you fishermen, if there are many on this forum(i am aware of one or two). Now it comes down to cleaning your tackle. Do you have to clean every last item eg: hooks, lines, weights, floats, etc. Obviously i will be looking to clean the major items, but am a little unsure of the fiddely(sp) items. So any of you folks can give me one or two pointers it would be appreciated. Don't really want to sell the tackle as it cost quite alot to put together and a hell of alot more to replace.

I have only heard of MAF taking an interest in fly fishing terminal gear Kim. They can and will insist that Flys and anything else that has come in contact with water being fumigated. This can end up costing the owner. Dont know the score with course gear, which I seem to recall is your branch of angling. I will ask around, but your best bet is to contact nz customs directly.
Andy (adamsat) recently imported his tackle, so would be worth dropping him a PM.

Me and my OH enjoy our fishing but we didnt bring our tackle with us, well we did but not our fishing tackle :laugh :exit

We have recently bought new rods etc., over here. Oh have I told you, we have also bought a boat :nice1 so if anyone is round Rotorua and fancys a spot of fishing they are more than welcome.

Good question Kim been thinking about this one myself, ive got mostly sea fishing gear. I will give it all a clean anyway just incase.

With regard to terminal tackle. When it's my turn to get on that plane I'll be giving everything a good clean/wipe down. Floats, shot dispensers, pretty much everything. Routine stuff really like what every angler should do at the end of a season but always puts it off ;) . I won't be re-packing my reels with new line, but will be taking plenty of spare spools for when I get out there. The only thing that will be seeing " jeyes " or something similar, will be my rod holdalls, box seat, wellies and waders, everything else just wiped down good and proper. I'll be buying new nets before we go as I think realistically, they would be the main stumbling block for coarse tackle with MAF.

Not that much scope for coarse fishing here mate... you may be better advised to take up saltwater fishing instead, as the fish are both larger and more plentiful in the sea.

MAF get touchy about anything used in fresh water, as the perils of contamination in fresh water are far greater than anything coming from the salt. (basically the idea is that if it can swim here, it can fly here.)
