I was reminiscing about being in Maori Club when i was at school and trying to explain what poi's are when i searched the net to show Stu what i was banging on about.

Found this!

http://www.homeofpoi.com/

I think i have found a new hobby! Take a look! It will bring out the pyro in all of you (and you can buy the equipment online!!!)

Wow, that looks fab. I used to love playing with poi's at school. Oh, and stick games (using rolled up magazines!). I have an urge to spin some poi's again (think I'll avoid the flaming ones for now!! :laugh )

Wow! The cultured version of the archetypal combination of a bloke, a bonfire and a big stick to poke it with!! Get's my vote. :clap

Saw one or two women on the beach in Spain this year exercising with similar things (without the fire). I suspect they are catching on in Europe already

AH POI and staff(this is pretty big in the UK)

Me and my girlfriend did this in AUS, I have done this for 3 years now, and burning is awsome, I would highly reccommend it. Be prepared to get burned though, if you use flame that is, either wise just use the nappy sack type of poi good to learn on.

There are big meets in the UK for this type of thing, but you have to know where the scene is. Doesn't take that long to learn either and doing a 3 beat spin behind your back is always a crowd puller. :):)

I would highly reccomend buying the monkey fists, they give a flame the size of your head, awsome fun. but not really for beginners but something to aspire to.:)

one of my fondest memories during my 1st trip to NZ was when the friend I was staying invited me out for a night of poi. There were quite a few people gathered at this park in the Auckland area and it was incredible to watch. It was so great to be in a park (at night!) with a group of people having so much fun. It seemed like it was a regular event (a fire based open mic of sorts) and something I could really get into

well this was back in 99, but it seemed to be a ongoing, just turn up kind of a deal. I wouldn't be surprised is something similar is still going on.

My friend was living in Parnell (how she afforded it I do not know - and it was withing a short drive of there). Everyone was really friendly - showing each other different things, practice, etc. There were also lots of people drumming which added to the whole feeling. Next time I see my friend (she's back stateside last I checked), I'll try to get the name of the park for ya.
