If it fits.. pack it :nice1

I regret giving away all my big candles to my sis in law :( - yeah, you can buy them here, but why go thru the expense of buying more if you have loads you can bring... ;)

I bought ours, I think the restriction for MAF point of view is the beeswax ones are not allowed in, the rest are OK.

Pack them, you never know when you might need them, ours came in handy a few weeks back, had a power cut, everywhere was pitch black, my candles were put to good use.

Tealights are damn expensive here (i saw some at $17 for 25!) - go on an Ikea or lakeland shopping spree and stock up!

You cant bring beeswax candles in but other than that anything goes.

The other thing is that there actually seem to be very few "candle shops" here, so bringing your big church candles over is a really really good idea.

Cheers Guys, I can get Church candles (big ones) for £2 - £4 depending on what shop I go to, I guess I will have to go to the pound shops and stock up!
Tealights - 24 for £1!

Yep - bring them ! I used to run 4 candle shops up in South Yorkshire a few years ago and so have a bit of knowledge on them:laugh NZ really does not offer a lot as far as "candle shops" go - we've only seen one in Newmarket (but not searched to be honest) - the rest are bits and pieces of handcraft candles and the normal Chinese cr*p.

Can you get hold of Yankee Candles in NZ? From looking at this thread, candles, or at least decent candles, seem to be in short supply. I love my Yankee Candles and want to know if I should start stocking up on them now.

A very few places stock a small range - not very easy at all to get them! Certainly none of the Yankee stores with the full range all around the walls like in the States :)

Neil where were your stores in South Yorkshire? I've been brought up in Penistone (between Barnsley and Sheffield) for most of my life. Although living in Christchurch on my own now. (With the small exception of the moment being back in the UK to visit the family!)

Hi - we had them in Sheffield (Ecclesall Rd), Batley, Tickhill and Rotherham - that was a few years ago though :)

Yankee Candles are an American brand - very high quality, but equally as expensive :)

They're all-singing, all-dancing scented candles.

I'd rather stick to my essential oil burner, but I have to confess to buying them on occaison.

Looks like I'll be stocking up on Ikea tealights before I go!

It's ok you don't need to worry about bringing them - electric lighting is available in most areas some of the time. When it's windy the electric will go off but so will candles:rolleyes:

As Moorf said - if it fits pack it.

Thanks. I guess I'll maybe stock up on a few before we come out. I know they are a little more expensive than other brands but the fragrance lasts all the way to the bottom of the candle because the candles are made up of small beads of wax which are immersed in the chosen fragrance and these beads then make up the candles. They burn evenly (if not burnt in a draft) and have such fragrances as Clean Cotton (smells like washing just in from the line), fresh cut roses, splash of rain, pumpkin pie, lavender and lots of others.

LOL - and I knew the guy that owned the UK import franchise - yes, he was a typical "smooth" salesman!

TBH - we rarely burn candles over here now - not sure why, but the doors and windows are open more here and not as much "need" to burn them.

Thanks for the link, wiki; so I used the shop locater and it came up with 12 distributors within 10 miles of me.. :o . Most of them were Hallmark stores, though, I'm in and out of those very occasionally only when I've forgotten a birthday or just need a card. I buy IKEA candles, too. They work and they're cheap! :)
