OK, I've searched and searched (to the best of my blond capability......) and come up with nothing. Has anyone ever found any companies that sail on a one-way trip to NZ from the UK (or somewhere close) that doesn't cost the earth? I'm told that you cannot work your passage anymore, as that is now considered slave labour, and it seems that only the likes of the QE2 here even consider going that far, and then only on a round trip.

Can anyone help here?

Many thanks,

Emily

A long while ago, somebody did post on this very esteemed forum about having made the journey on a freight liner. I really cant recall the cost involved, but the thing that made a big impact on them was a sense of having arrived, as against simply landed.
I am sure that someone will be be able to dig up the relevant thread for you.

I posted some details I think earlier this year, but can't for the life of me find the thread right now.

The details were for a travel agent in Hawkes Bay NZ, but he could do the travel in either direction. I will have a hunt around and see if I can find his number.

In the meantime however, the figures he was quoting me at the time were about £1,000 per person one way. This was on a freight liner, but they still apparently have some luxuries and he told me that you would be well looked after as the staff have very little else to do!!! Oh and it takes about 33 days.

Would love to do it myself one day...

I remeber reading about this somewhere else (before I even considered coming to NZ) and it sounded a good deal and fun too.

Would be interested to hear if anyone has done it this way.
