Hi All
As most are aware, we haven't had the best of luck since being here. Latest news is that I found a lump on the breast, went to the doctors this morning and have now got an appointment to have a mammogram and scan done on Wednesday (good old parents are paying for me to go private)
Obviously a nervous wreck and was just wondering whether anyone else has had these tests done???? Or been though similar experiences.
Thanks Joanne

Jeez Jo, you really are having some terrible times. :( I'm afraid I haven't had any experiences that would offer you any help/advice, but I am more than happy to come round for a chat / coffee if that would help, you're not far away. And I'll PM you my telephone number if you just want someone to talk to.
Please don't feel you are alone - we're all here to help - and there are lots of us gals here in Chch.
Best wishes,
Moorf

Joanne, I can't offer you any advice. Just hope that the scan result is not as bad as you think. Sorry that you are going through such a terrible situation and will pray for you.

Oh Joanne, you really have had the worst luck since you got to NZ. I can't help except to say that I know most lumps are nothing to worry about. Good luck with the mammogram - my thoughts are with you. Let us know how you get on.

Joanne-
I went through that about 3 years ago and it turned out to be a cyst which cleared up in a short amount of time (a week, 10 days...something like that). If you've had a mammogram before you know what to expect there, if not its very uncomfortable but manageable. On the scan, if it was like mine its just a sonogram, like they kind they use to look at a baby during pregnancy. They put goo or gel around the spot they want to look at and run a hand-held scanner over it. It was a bit uncomfortable since the woman was pressing down very firmly to get a clear image. But the worst part was having to wipe the goo off afterwards. Try not to worrry about the tests. But if you have any specific questions, feel free to PM me.

Hi jo
A couple of years ago I found a lump in one of my breasts, after being examined by the Dr and him also finding said lump Dr sent me for a scan the same day, turns out that I have very lumpy breast tissue, so try not to worry, although easier said than done.

Hi Jo
Recent experience, yes, found 'a lump' two weeks before coming out here. Down the doc's the next day, the hospital called with an appt for the breast clinic for 3 days later. Needed the stress with packing and everything. NOT!
The Gp was unsure as I am hmmm 'well endowed' as she put it :o so refered me to the clinic. I had also been prodding, poking and worrying myself sick and had made myself sore, so it was extra difficult to tell anything.
Mammogram was first at the breast clinic. Ouch if you are are big, it's an uncomfortable experience. Off to the consultant 30 mins later, she was lovely. Had a good search, gave me an ultrasound scan on both (just like when you have a baby) showed me all the results of this and mammogram, and how to check myself properly. Brilliant service from the NHS for once.
All clear, PHEW!!!!, Like Elaine I've got fatty breast tissue but then I've always been big 'up top'
Anyway enough about me. Try not to worry, very difficult I know, you should get results very quickly. You may have to have a biopsy or aspiration of the fluid if it's a cyst thingy.
I'm too far for coffee, but I'm thinking of you and hope you get it sorted quickly.
Big Hugs

Hi Jo,
What awful luck you've had. Sorry to hear this latest bit, and I can only echo what a few others have already said: I had a scare about two years ago, brill NHS sefvice, turned out to be nothing, phew. The mammogram was not the most comfy thing I've ever done (nothing much to mammo!).
Will join Singel in a prayer for you, all the best,
Gil

Thank you Thank you all so much! And for all the pms that you sent. At least I know what to expect. Not getting a great deal of sleep at the moment, not alot can be done about that though. 'Statistically' I no I am a low risk, only 30, and only one case of breast cancer in my family, which was my elderly grandmother, and it was secondary cancer..........so please lets statistics win in my case!
Fingers crossed I just jave lumpy boobs!!!
Thanks again to everyone, especially for sharing your personal stories it has helped ALOT.

Hi all. just a quick update
Had the mammogram and scan today, then was sent to another clinic for a biopsy (think thats what it is called, anyway when they stick a few needles in)
I won't get the results of the biopsy till Friday, BUT the doc who done the mammo and scan seemed quite confident that the lump isn't anything "nasty".
Feeling quite relieved now it is over with, it wasn't at all as bad as I thought it would be, but must say though, my boobs are 'killing' me at the moment! Well worth it though!
Thanks again Joanne

Had the call today and all seems good!
They said the sample they took wasn't very good but from what they got nothing bad showed up and the doctor said to me because the mammo and scan were ok he doesn't think it needs to be repeated! My thoughts would be, if that they have any concern that they would want to repeat the test. So still don't know what it is, but thank god it is nothing to worry about. Thanks for all your support :raebanana
