Hello everyone,
I am new to this forum and just wanted to introduce myself as I will probably be a frequent visitor in the months to follow.

Both my wife and I are looking to emigrate via the skilled migrant catagory sometime in spring of '07. We would do it now but we have some commitments to wrap up before then and we really don't want to rush the process. We are from the US (currently living in S. Korea) and are wanting to make this move for a variety of reasons that would be a whole other thread in itself so I'll save that for another time. Basically, we will be a significant crossroads in our lives in about a year and will be able to take just about any path we want with our lives. When we started researching this option it just really fit and ended up sticking with us.

This upcoming June I will hit my 8 year mark of skilled employment so we want to submit the EOI at that time for the few extra points that will give us. That along with a Bachelors Degree of Science (Major in Environmental Geography/Science), and our young age (both of us will be under 30) will give us a total of 105 pts for the EOI. Hopefully, that will be enough for us to get our EOI selected and as long as the minimum point level doesn't rise from now to then. Has anyone out there had any experience (actually made it through or in the process of emigrating) with the whole process with about that many points?

Well take care and we look forward to talking to you all in the months to come.

Welcome TJH. I can't help you with the points score for EOI as we had a few more, but I'm sure someone here will have had experience of that.

You sound like you have a good plan though and I look forward to following that and helping out if I can.

Good luck

hello TJH
Well we were granted full PR on 100 points also without job offer, so I don't think you will have any problems with what you are offering. We are now in the position of haveing the house up for sale and looking to make the move end of August.
Good luck with everything keep us all posted.

You will find answers to probably 99% of your questions and for the other 1% just keep doing your research and it will turn up somewhere and then i'm sure you will be able to help others with the missing 1%.

Hi TJH and welcome to the forum. :nice1

105 points is currently enough for your EOI to be selected. We were selected with 120 and no jobs last year and had no problems. From what I've been reading in the press here recently there's been a marked decrease in immigrants, plus a bit of a Kiwi exodus to Oz, so I personally can't see the current 100 pts level rising anyday soon.

As others have said, loads of info and personal experience on here, plus don't be afraid to ask ANY question at all :)

Thanks to all for the replies and support. Right now we have that magic 100 points to our credit and that seems to be enough to make a go of it right now.

However, our timeline would not change and we would not be able to make the move until around April '07. That being said how long is a PR offer good for once it has been granted by the NZIS? I think I remember it being stated in another thread I was reading on here that it was 12 months but I could not find that thread again after searching. If this is the case then I guess there is no reason to not submit the EOI here pretty soon and start the whole process. As long as we are granted PR after April '06 we should be good.

I'm not sure of the timeframe for going from EOI to ITA - then you have a certain amount of time to submit your ITA (I'm sure someone on here will be able to tell you) - then that all needs to go through NZIS (there's something on this site with time frames which will give you a better idea of how long that will take), then they will offer you PR in principle, you then have 6 months to pay your migrant levy and get the all important stamps/stickers in your passports, and then you have a year to get to NZ to validate them! Sorry I'm a bit hazy on the early timings as Hubby got his PR by partnership route (I'm a Kiwi). But you have 18 months once you are offered PR to get to NZ.

Hope this helps, and I'm sure someone will post more info on the earlier timings)

Hi, welcome to the forum. The timeline from EOI to ITA depends on selection and NZIS. Once you receive your ITA, you have a maximum of 4 months to get meds, police checks, paperwork etc. We managed to eke ours out to the last day, literally!!

Good luck

Welcome TJH,
We fly out on 1st Nov, to New Plymouth. My partner has some short term work and we plan to look for something more permanent and make our decision on whether emigration is right for us while we're out there (house rented out).
We came over for 5 wks 2 yrs ago and loved it, but i've learnt a lot more since being on this site and thanks to the generosity of those who have already moved to NZ sharing their insights and invaluable information with us all. I hope to share some insights of my own in coming weeks.

Stick with this forum, it's the best of them all and good fun. I've felt no pressure to post, i'm a bit more of a sit back and listen to other's conversations (largely because i'm in the UK still and have only questions, no answers).

I'm sure for every query you have there is someone here who has an answer.

Good luck with your plans!!

Hi TJh

I'll help as best I can if my memory serves me right we had 105 points with no job offer.
As it stand my hubby is in NZ working and I am tying up loose ends for when Ian gets back then all the family fly out on the 8th Jan.

EOI applied Aug 2004.
ITA recieved Nov 2004
Apllication put in Feb 2005
PR granted March 2005
we then had 6 months to pay the migrant levy to get Passports PR stamped.
then we would have had 12 months to get to NZ otherwise the PR would expire.

I hope that helps work out some of your timings.
Also I believe they take a little longer sending out ITA's in the Far East.

You may well be able to start planning putting in your EOI soon.

Thanks to all with the advice. Talked it over with the Mrs. and we are going to put in our EOI as soon as possible. Just have to wait until I get my passport back (getting renewed) from the embassy and we fill all the forms out online. Thanks again.
