So I've never had a need to call NZ from the US but now, since my fiancee and I are moving to Wellington in three weeks :) , we need to tell everyone who wants to keep in touch with us how to do it. So...

How do I make a call from the US to NZ? I have the phone number and I know that the country code is 64, but how do I actually do it?

Also what do the parts of the numbers mean (if anything)?
Example: In the US # 610-355-2333 the 610 part is the area code (useful info for longer distance, higher cost calls)

Thanks!

It's similar to making a long distance call within the US, just with more digits.

Dial the international access code (011), then the country code (64), then area code, then the number. E.g. to call Auckland: 011-64-9-xxx xxxx.

The instructions are in the front of most US phone books so your friends won't need to actually memorize all that!
