I'm sure this has been covered, and I have searched, but with no joy.
What questions shouls I be asking the shippers when they come round to do a quote? I've got PSS and Crown from the expo coming round and it seems, from reading the various shippers threads, that terms and conditions vary greatly. (Ours is fairly straightforward, 3 bed house, no car, bike or pets)
So any questions I should definitely ask? Any questions you wished you'd ask?
Cheers
PS If this has already been covered feel free to give me a link to the thread!

Hi Tia Maria,
I've got a question.
Once quoted, how long will the shippers stand by that figure before they would need to re-quote ?
TIA

I have just received a quote from PSS, and in terms and conditions, they state the right for them to re-quote if;
"you do not accept our quotation in writing within 28 days, or the work is not completed within 3 months "
In our case, we have little to take. The quote is as follows;
Ocean freight to arrival port Auckland £1939.00
Destination port/terminal charges £74.00
Customs clearance (excludes govt. inspection/treatment fees), delivery to residence assuming Tauranga, unpacking and removal of packaging materials £570.00
Total door to door for 570 cubic feet £2583.00
I am assuming VAT applies, but have not clarified yet.
They also offer 4 weeks free storage
in UK then £20 per week +vat thereafter. Storage in NZ would be $29 per week
Insurance is at 2.8% of value.

If you speak to Pickfords you could ask them if the p1ss poor team who packed for GeorgeM and his family's move from Salisbury to Chch in August 2002 are still working for them. :laugh
If they are avoid at all costs...:exit

Have just got the costs down on my shipment to Christchurch for 3400 to 2950 and also got the insurance down from 3.00% to 1.53%
I can't remember all they said, just want to get my stuff there.
Hope it is all ok.
Must wash the golf clubs, boots and bags, paint a wooden box, and get rid of my straw and pine cone xmas decorations (would they be OK if I sprayed them gold).

Straw painted Yes. :raebanana but leave out the pine cones. :wah You may still find they want to investigate, it depends what the shippers write on the inventory.
For my 100 year old Lloyd Loom painted linen box, they still want to look because the shippers have listed it as a wicker basket. :wah Mr LL would turn in his grave.
