Hello all, long time no posting from me, but a lot has happened

We're now in the last stage of getting our ITA together and I have read on here, that you have to have your medicals envelope closed, now our doctor didnt close ours and it's (still) open. We needed an extra visit to a specialist for an extra report due to a (luckily) benign condition of our oldest, so maybe he thought we needed to stick the report in the envelope?

Does anyone know where it says that the medical envelope NEEDS to be
CLOSED? (For ex on the NZIS site?)

I have tried finding it with the Search option, but so far no luck and we're in a bit of a hurry, need to send it in before this month is over, lol.

TIA!
Hannah.

We opened ours (either that or it was open anyway), and a good job we did as a couple of bits of info had been missed off the xray forms. Just put your extra info in and close it when its finished.

Hi Hannah,

First I have to say, good news about your oldest, that must have been really frightening!

Our doctor told us that the envelope had to be sealed before he released it. And it was sealed (and the seal signed). As you probably know this isn’t because NZIS and the Medical profession are trying to keep secrets from you. I guess it’s just a precaution to prevent the medical forms from being altered.

You said that your doctor left the envelope open, possibly so that you could include the 2nd report. I really don’t think that’s the case. In your position the envelope may have been left open quite deliberately. The doctor probably thought that further tests were appropriate (but a good doctor always acts cautiously) and left the envelope open because they knew that if it was sealed and you were given news like this you would open it to see what was written (I know I would have).

The envelope (in my opinion) was left open so that you could read the contents. Seal the envelope, include only the original contents and send it to NZIS. Any other reports/results should be sealed in their envelopes too.

Good luck with the ITA Bob

P.S. if I recall correctly the Doctors guide on how to complete the medical for states that the envelope must be sealed.

Hi Hannah

Yes they are supposed to be sealed and stamped/signed over. I completely forgot about that when I opened our xray forms. Lucky I did as it stated I had active TB (I don't) The radiographer's consultant's secretary gave me a blast for opening them, I pointed out that on doing that I had found their mistake.

Anyway, long story short, Like Bob & Sal says, seal it up when you have received all your reports. It is supposed to be sealed to stop them being altered but it's not your fault if it came unsealed.

Good luck

Hey Hannah,
Ours wasn't sealed, in fact it was slipped in with the actual xray, and as you don't have to send the xray, i just put it in with the other documents, not even in a seperate envelope. Didn't encounter any problems, PR was granted 1month later.

Our reports were given to us in an open envelope, we had a good look through them then sent them off. There certainly wasn't any signature across a seal and we didn't encounter any problems at all.

Casting my mind back a few years, when I had my medical done for my Aussie residencey the reports were sent directly to the Aussie immigration people, I never had the faintest clue what was in them but i guess it must have been OK.

Maybe different medical centres have different ideas regarding the rules. There doesn't seem to be any 'rule of thumb' on this one.

We were similar to Femke - our med forms were just handed to us after the docs had completed / signed them, same with the radiography ones, not in envelopes, and we had no problems.

We opened Marks envelope :o . No signed seal across it or anything. Then sent it open. No problems, Mark got PR, so it must've been ok.

Well are medicals were posted to us from the Dr's with the Xrays all lose in one of those plastic postie bags. Not sealed or special stamped in fact the Dr phoned me the day he posted it all to tell me that he had forgotten to ask me to sign my medical form and he was supposed to witness it but not to worry he would sign his bit just do my bit befor sending it off.
I thought that this was fine, (not the signing bit, the bit about the medicals being open). I thought that it is only the new medicals that have to be sealed, but I could be mistaken.

I'd strongly caution against opening the envelope. I opened mine and was rather surprised to find that my chest X-Ray displayed (along with my ribs) a pot-plant, a continental duvet, box of matches and the entire Brazillian subbuteo football team (1970 version!).

There's some things you'd prefer not to know......:D

:laugh Cardiff, you must have been hungrrrryyy!

Thanks all for your help, I knew I could rely on this forum to take away the last bit of doubt and thanks Bob for the well wishes on our oldest son. It was kinda nerve wrecking to discover he might have a serious condition, or maybe get one in the future.. But luckily not so! :nice1

I now have the whole stack lying next to me, almost grinning at me: "Do you dare to stick me in that envelope?" I need a really BIG and Sturdy one for that too btw! :yes Will let you know when it's gone and received in London!

Now off to that special place where they sell the cans of patience ;)

FINALLY got ours back, all in one envelope - the one they posted it in!

so I am going to leave it as it is - or do you think I should put them in separate envelopes myself??

appreciate the advice

There were no such envelopes or chain-of-custody type seal for us. Maybe they trust us Americans more, though I'm not sure why. Maybe they just forgot to send us the envelope. It seems there are many instances of inconsistency in NZIS. You'd think they'd want things to be more standardized.

JUst double checking everyone,

when submitting ITA (which we are doing in person on 31st) we do NOT need to take the X-Rays - right ???

Well they have accepted our ITA with the medical forms stuck in with the rest of all the papers and forms in one big envelope and got a letter it's now officially lodged. So I guess that's ok, right?
(I bet they would have returned it right away if it was not! :nice1)
